[Goat/man or not, Barabbas was a hero, any way you cut it. Dan (the Shamamite) C Luke tells us that Barabbas was in prison for Sedition – meaning he was a leader of the insurrection. What become of his followers? I believe Luke also provides the answer: Luke 23: 39And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. Since you have sainted Barabbas, I just wanted to know if you would saint the two malefactors also.

Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were officers in an evil government yet they didn't submit to the evil act required of them by the government nor did they rebel.

Refreshing read. Most of the time Christians only talk about God and his blessings being "Un-conditional".
Thanks.

Jeff Benner, an expert in Biblical Hebrew writes "When the Hebrew word emunah is translated as "faith," as it often is, misconceptions of its meaning occur. Faith is usually perceived as knowing while the Hebrew emunah is a firm action. To have faith in Elohiym is not knowing that Elohiym exists or knowing that he will act, rather it is that the one with emunah will act with firmness toward Elohiym's will." www.ancient-hebrew.org He's absolutely correct about that. That is Hebraic thinking at its finest. It's about action, not just a feeling in your heart. This is exactly what James is talking about when he wrote "faith without works is dead."
Faith like nearly all words has more than one meaning. As Jeff points out most think first of knowing as in, "I know God Exists." Another meaning of "faith" is "Loyalty." Loyalty requires action. If you are faithful/loyal to God you will carry out his commands.

Should Barabbas have lead an insurrection or waited on Messiah who was chosen by G-d to save the people and foretold to come at that time? That is the central issue being discussed. Jesus told Peter to put up his sword after cutting someone’s ear off. He also did not call 10,000 angels to his rescue. This was because it was not time for war. It was time for surrender and preservation of life. When Jesus returns, it will be time for war. Since we no longer have the Urin and Thummim to determine when to war and not war as Saul and David did, we must turn to scripture for examples to determine when to war and not to war. We should not dismiss Biblical examples because we think it only applies to one person, situation or time. All scripture is for doctrine, reproof and instruction in righteousness. When surrender preserves life, as Jerimiah told Zedikiah his surrender would do, surrender is the correct course of action. There are ample examples in the Bible when wars were fought that should not have been. There also ample examples of when wars were not fought that should have been. Essentially we are discussing the concept of “justifiable war”. One extreme is pacifists, like Jehovah Witnesses, Quakers, and Ana-Baptist who say one should never participate in war and the other extreme is patriotism, like Catholics, and Baptist, who say you fight when the government tells you to fight. Both are dead wrong. WWI is an example of a war that the US entered due to Patriotism. WWII is an example of a war the US delayed entering due to pacifists. The war that Jefferson fought with the Barbary Coast Pirates is an example the US fighting a Justifiable war at the right time.

Sure looks as though Jeremiah is telling Zedekiah to submit to Babylon. Of course at this time Babylon is closer to God than Israel is.
Jer 38:17Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house: 18But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand. 19And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me. 20But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live. 21But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
I agree we can be called to war, but we can be called to surrender. If we refuse to fight when called to do so or insist on fighting when we should not, destruction will follow.
I don't disagree with what you have said about salt and how it was used. However there is a very easy way for salt to loose its' savour. When salt is mined from the salt flats of the dead sea is has a high percentage of clay in it. Expose the salt to water and the salt will dissolve and leave behind the clay. The clay looks like salt but will not taste like it. You just throw the clay into the street to tread under foot.

Does God ever require his people to submit to an ungodly government? If he does wouldn't that make an insurrection against that ungodly government an insurrection against God? I believe Jesus spoke to this in the following Verse:
Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
It is better to submit to an ungodly government than to rebel against it before regaining your savour (right standing with God).

[ Those letters which later made up the bulk of our Brith Chadashah were themselves meant as instruction from men who were qualified to interpret scripture and to make halacha, our instructions in our walk with God. So it is not saying we need no Godly instruction. Nor does it negate your point that when such instruction is not available we should prayerfully go to God and ask for His guidance as we try to figure things out for ourselves. But the two are not divorced. They should go together. Test what you hear, but do not forsake the assembly when you have one (at least not without good cause). And listen to those more knowledgable when given the opportunity. Dan C agreed

Tongues = Language The utterance of unintelligible sounds is not language therefore not tongues. In acts when Peter spoke everyone understood him, regardless of his native tongue/language. This is what Jesus was referring to.

Also see the following thread. . Post by jimmie on Apr 23, 2018 at 5:48pm לַעֲזָאזֵל l•ozazl –to or for goat of departure. אֹ is not with the לִ in this word. Not sure how anyone could see a reference to God in it. To try to make this word into a name is a mis-justice to the text. Maybe “the living bird” (echie etzphr) that is release in chapter 14 should also be converted to a name. Read more: theloveofgod.proboards.com/thread/4433/29-acharey-mot-after-death#ixzz5oaAOwUTH

So we are left to grope in the dark and find our way alone. Dan C John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

This law has a special meaning for me as it was the very first Biblical law that I took note of and was intent on obeying. It was the seed that sprouted reverence for God's law in me.

Azazel is a villain in “X-men” that has the power of teleportation. We should be careful when looking for an explanation of azazel or we may wind up believing in the X-men. I do not see the term as a name. It is more a state of existence or non-existence. The two goats according to 16:5 were a sin offering. I don’t think God who shares his glory with no one will share his sin offering with a demon or satan. The two goats represented the states of existence of God’s People – Isreal. The goat that was sacrificed represented Israel as acceptable to God whereas the scape goat represented a sinful Israel that was unacceptable to God and was separated from him. This is the only two states in which a person can exist.
If you are still looking for a demon in this story compare it to Leviticus 14:16. Do you see the bird that is let go being given to a demon? The birds in 14:16 represent an individual and the goats in 16:8, 10 & 26 represent a nation.
