King James Bible John 19:11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
International Standard Version Jesus answered him, "You have no authority over me at all, except what was given to you from above. That's why the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."
The government has no authority or power that was not given them by God and his Word/Jesus. Here Jesus plainly states that what Pilot (government) was sinning and those who turned him over to the government were sinning. God(Jesus) never gave the government the right to sin.

The simple answer to picking grain on the Sabbath: Deuteronomy 23:24-25 When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel. When you enter your neighbor's standing grain, then you may pluck the heads with your hand, but you shall not wield a sickle in your neighbor's standing grain.
Then there was those who were not given the knowledge of the Kingdom plainly: Matthew 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given Luke 8:10 He replied, "The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, 'Though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.'
Certain Pharisees, who where not given the knowledge of the Kingdom, are the ones being addressed in Matt 12:1-8, Mark 2:23-28, and Luke 6:1-5

No whiz. Just using word searches.
Ps. 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.” Jeremiah 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
Deut 12:30 Take heed to yourself that you are not snared by following them, after they are destroyed from before you; and that you inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Ex 23:2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:
1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

kepha, Tring to put God into terms that man can understand is a tricky business. So here is my atempt: First let’s look at three passages from Palams: Ps 20:6 Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. Ps 44: 2 How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. 3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them. Ps 118:14 The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. 15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. 16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. Salvation is in the right hand of the LORD. If you trace the meaning of Jesus back to the Hebrew, you will find that it means Salvation. This is why we find Jesus on the right hand of the father: Matthew 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Mark 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. Acts 2:25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Acts 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. Acts 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Acts 5:31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, Acts 7:56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Ephesians 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Colossians 3:1 | | If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Hebrews 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Hebrews 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the , and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. The right hand of the Father is where our Salvation comes from: Matthew 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 1 Peter 3:22 (Jesus) Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. Luke 23:33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. (one is saved and one is not. Though it is not called out that the one on the right was the one saved) “Eli” translated as “My God” can also mean “My Power”. From the human perspective Jesus’ power had forsaken him. But, from God’s perspective, He lay his right hand down and he picked it back up in three days.

Trinitarianism is a compromise between one God and many gods in which the Father = God, the Son = God and the Holy Ghost = God. However the Father does not = the Son does not = the Holy Ghost does not = the Father. I hope that makes since.
To supplement what alon and Elizibeth have said about The Father and the Son being one and the same and help kepha understand why we believe this, please consider this:
The people of Israel rejected God the Father as being their king and desired a fleshly king like the nations had. To correct that, the Father manifests himself in the flesh as the Son to reestablish his kingship over Israel. Israel has their fleshly king and God is that King.
When God shows up in the burning bush or as fire by night and a cloud by day or as a hand we do not deify each of these as a separate god. They are each and every one a manifestation of God Himself.

23 “He gave me this explanation: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it. 24 The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings. 25 He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.
Who has changed the appointed times from what God said in his word (Bible) from seventh day to first day, Passover to easter, Unleavend Bread to lent, etc. Who has changed the laws God laid out in his word (Bible)from unclean meats to everything is clean. It is not those of us trying to keep/observe/obey/honor/follow/hallow God's law and appointed times.

crisg,
First the clues.
Luk 16:19 There(1161) was2258 a certain5100 rich4145 man,444 which(2532) was clothed1737 in purple4209 and2532 fine linen,1040 and fared2165 sumptuously2988 every day:2596, 2250 Luk 16:25 But1161 Abraham11 said,2036 Son,5043 remember3415 that3754 thou4771 in1722 thy4675 lifetime2222 receivedst618 thy4675 good things,18 and2532 likewise3668 Lazarus2976 evil things:2556 but1161 now3568 he3592 is comforted,3870 and1161 thou4771 art tormented.3600 Luk 16:28 For1063 I have2192 five4002 brethren;80 that3704 he may testify1263 unto them,846 lest3363 they846 also2532 come2064 into1519 this5126 place5117 of torment.931
He was rich or a member of the elite, he wore purple meaning royalty, he wore linen, meaning priestly, he fared sumptuously as did Eli’s sons. He was a son of Abraham, and he had five brethren. The only one that fits that is Judah.
Christ was teaching the same concept that he did in Mat 5:20 For1063 I say3004 unto you,5213 That3754 except3362 your5216 righteousness1343 shall exceed4052, 4119 the righteousness of the3588 scribes1122 and2532 Pharisees,5330 ye shall in no case3364 enter1525 into1519 the3588 kingdom932 of heaven.3772
alon,
I have no problem with hand under one’s thigh being a euphemism for hand upon the sword. Both place Eliezer in a humble position in Abraham’s bosoms.

Could Lazarus equal Eliezer (God's Helper) of Damascus the servant of Abraham who put his hand under Abraham's thigh? Surely this faithful servant rest in Abraham" bosom.
Note if the "E" is dropped and you add a "s" to make the name have the Greek form, Eliezer becomes Lazarus.

A tool used to find the biblical meaning of a word is to look at how that word is paralleled with other words in poetical passages. In the following verses mercy will be underlined and the word that it is paralleled with will be in bold.
Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. (KJV, Psalm 6:2)
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper. (KJV, Psalm 30:10)
But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. (KJV, Psalm 41:10)
Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast. (KJV, Psalm 57:1)
O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. (KJV, Psalm 86:16)
Through this process we find that this mercy is paralleled with such ideas as healing, help, being lifted up, finding refuge, strength and salvation (literally rescued).
Mercy {from Latin meaning reward} Kind and compassionate treatment of a person under one’s power. Something for which to be thankful. Mercy emphasizes compassion in a general way; it suggests reprieve from a fate of considerable severity, without further implication.
Matthew 18:33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

Malichi 2:12The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts. 13And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth [it] with good will at your hand. 14Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet [is] she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. 15And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. 16For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for [one] covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.
This passage deals manly with divorce but notice the answer to why God made two into one: “That he might seek a godly seed.” So the purpose of marriage is godly seed. From the beginning is has been so. Go forth and multiply. Another thread dealt with “nidda”, if you go back to those scriptures presented in that discussion, you will find that there is a 7 day cleansing after a 7 day flow which bring you to the 14th day of the woman’s cycle, which is the day of ovulation. Thus the man and woman were to come together at the woman’s fertile time. The laws of “nidda” were set up specifically to insure conception. When my wife and I were dating (fornicating), we used the knowledge of the ovulation time to avoid her becoming with child. We dated for 3.5 years without any children. After marriage, we started trying to follow the biblical mandate. We had 12 children roughly one every other year.

So you believe the Bible tells us we should practice self mutilation. I guess my next question would be "What parts have you cut off?" Not the same thing at all. Not even close. These verses do not deal with self mutilation, but the penalties for mutilating others; "as he hath done, so shall it be done to him" is clearly someone else doing it, not "self." Dan C
Can you show me a case of those OT penalties being carried out? Penalties are used as a deterrent to actions. The sins that disciples commit can lead less mature believers to sin also. This explains why the emphasis is on the external hand/foot/eye and not the heart. A disciple can not lead a weaker believer to sin by wickedness in the heart only; it has to be acted out so as to be seen. Thus the severity of the penalties for offending with the hand/eye/foot.

Matt 5: 27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. 30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Matt 18: 7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! 8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. 9And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. Mark 9: 42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. 43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 47And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: The above words are not hyperbole nor do they obfuscate any meaning but are a restatement of the words below. We should not have pity on our own shortcomings. There is a price for offences. Ex 21: 23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life. 24Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe. Lev 24: 19 And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him; 20Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again. Deut 19: 21And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

Ex 34:2 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
The blending of Jewish tradition and Christian tradition would be fashioning our own god/religion as was done with the molten calf. And thus would not be pleaseing to God.
Our goal is simply:
Deut 5:32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
Deut 28:14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

No ambiguity that I can see. You take the three basic words for snow and add prefixes and/or suffixes to from new words. Just as it is done in Hebrew: For example: Bethel: House of God Bethany: House of figs Bethlehem: House of Bread Beth-shemesh: house of the sun Beth-haram: House of the high place Beth-shean: House of rest Beth-dagan: House of the fish god Beth-baal-peor: House of the lord of the opening Abel-beth-Maacah: meadow of the house of Maacah Bethpelet: house of escape Beth-eden: house of pleasure Beth-birei: house of the creative one Each is a new word, formed form roots to make the new compound word. In each word, the root “beth” is house and the other part of the word describes the house. It is the same in the Eskimos’ language when forming words describing snow. Distinctive words on the other hand do not share common roots. The following is a list of distinctive words that describe different forms of water in the English language: water, snow, ice, sleet, steam, vapor, cloud, rain, drizzle, mist, sprinkle, dew, drink, fog, river, stream, brook, branch, spring, creek, ocean, sea, brackish, brine, lake, pond, puddle, swamp, seep, sewerage, spa, urine, perspiration, sweet, tears, saliva, spit, aqua, hydra, H2O, well, wet, damp, soaked, emulsion, and I haven’t even used any compound words such as backwater, waterscape, watermelon, water-jacket, water-logged, waterfall, water-course, water-hammer, waterpower, waterspout, water supply, and waterworks I guess us Angels know water and it would take an Eskimo scientist a whole dictionary to describe our words for water. I have successfully refuted the claims of errors many times on this forum as you have from time to time acknowledged. I have also been unsuccessful at refuting the claims of errors though I know I was right. And at times I have not even tried to refute the claims because my knowledge was too limited to attempt. In most of those cases, I agree with what is being said about the passage but do not agree that the English version does not teach the same thing. I agree that we are responsible to read the Word with discernment, learn from each other, and be led by the Spirit. For the record, I have never studied snow. But I know when it will make a good snow-cream or snow-man and when it will make a northerner, who has seen a whole lot more snow than I have, scratch his head and say, what the heck is that? I am not a linguist either but have studied enough to know that translation between languages can be accomplished and that a lot of stuff taught by “Hebrew Roots” people is just as much wrong as things taught by Catholics. Israel was appointed by God to disperse His Oracles to the Greeks, Romans, English and others not to keep them away from His Oracles.

Yeshua thought like a Hebrew, NOT like a Greek, and this is a VERY important distinction! Dan C
Which Hebrew did Jesus think like? Was it Nadab, Abihu, Korah, Dathan, Abiram …? It’s not how one thinks. Rather it’s what one thinks that matters. Many Hebrews have broken God’s laws and many Greeks have endeavored to keep it. Romans 3: 1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. 3For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? The advantage of the Hebrew/Israel/Jew is not their language/culture/philosophy but rather the oracles of God. Regardless what nation or tongue keeps the oracles of god, doing so brings blessings. Romans 2: For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. 26Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? 27And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? To elevate the Hebrew language above all others seems to be getting dangerously close to worshiping a creation of God instead of Him. Romans 1: For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. Psalms 19: 1{To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.} The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. If God’s Glory and handy work can be expressed in any and all speech and language, then his oracles can too.
