I take care of one of my grandsons one day a week, and I have a very nice play area which includes a toy kitchen with all the toy food a child could want. Each week, he brings me the menu I made for the kitchen, and I tell him what I want. He "prepares" and brings it to me. Being from a Christian home that does not practice kosher living, he surprised me one day by informing me, "It's kosher, grandma." Oh, that made me smile!
So we have had times when I have had opportunity to tell him regarding real food, "No, Sweetheart. I will not buy that; it's not kosher. This is much better -- let's get it!" He has asked the questions, and I have given the answers.
One day, my daughter called me, laughing. "Mother! What have you been teaching Nathanael?!" She had served pork chops, and he didn't want to eat them, because apparently, she had gotten them on sale, and he was tired of them. "I don't want that" he told her. "It's not kosher!"
Little seeds! Little seeds.
