I told my mother I wanted to celebrate Chanukah in accordance with Messiah's example and later taht week she surprised me witha Menorah.
Now, It is really nice and I had not the heart to tell hear Chanakuh menorahs had 9 branches and not 7.... Is there any religious use for a 7 branched menorah other than in a synagouge?

You could use it for Shabbat, or other moedim. Ah I see. I wanted to be sure it was not disrespectful to use it outside of the synagougue. Can you explain to me or give me a site that would lay out the proper lighting procedures for the Sabbath uses?

The seven branch Menorah is in the home of many a Jewish person. It is correct that the post-second temple rabbis would not allow the making of menorahs with seven branches. Although, there is not Biblical prohibition against it's use outside of The Temple. What a beautiful symbol to have in our homes! It reminds us of so much. What a blessing to recieve it from your mother!
I would use it for set-apart purposes. Because each home is to be a mikdash me'at (mini-sanctuary) it would be apropriate for believers to have a seven branch menorah in their house to symbolize the divine light, the light of the world...Yeshua The Messiah. In regards to Shabbat, I would reccommend lighting the traditional Shabbat candles. Cherish this gift and may your mother be blessed.
Shalom b'Yeshua,
Reuel
