Gen 9: 3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

What does “Every moving thing that liveth” mean? Do the follow scriptures help show what is and is not included? Fore example in verse 2 there are four groups: beast of the earth, fowl of the air, things that moveth upon the earth and fish. Would it be correct to say “moving things” does not include beast of the earth, fowls of the air, and fish of the sea?

Genesis 9:3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.

First off there are a lot of plants and animals even a pagan can't or won't eat, so we can reasonably assume Noach isn't being told to eat some of everything. Likewise we know he understood the difference between tahara and tumah (ritually pure and impure) animals:

Genesis 7:2 Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate,

From that and the fact God will not tell us to sin we can extrapolate that he was not being told to eat animals like swine. So I'd understand this to be saying he can (and should) now eat meat.
