From a discussion in another group I also visit. Is the Shroud of Turin genuine or fake? It has been very difficult to know for sure either way. But looking up the gospels details seems to solve it.
The bible definitely says it is a fake. Matthew says a linen cloth, Mark says some/the linen cloth, Luke says linen cloth, but John says strips of linen and a face cloth both for Lazarus and Jesus (similar to Egyptian mummies), and also "the linen" for Jesus, and he further adds "take off the grave clothes" for Lazarus. So its definitely a fake (strips and face cloth versus body shroud). (Though I haven't checked the Greek interlinear version, only English translations.)
There are also other reasons for seeing it is fake too, but John's details clinches it.

There are also other reasons for seeing it is fake too, but John's details clinches it. You are correct:John 19:40 (KJV) Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes (ὀθόνιον othonion- bandages) with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.Catholics believed it was the blood of the Christ on the shroud. But the body would have been washed and oils and spices applied to it. Many scientific tests have been done over the centuries to prove it is a fake, mostly by those wanting to prove there is no God. So their findings were sort of a foregone conclusion. Still, they do provide some scientific evidence. Moot point s far as I am concerned. Real or fake, I would seriously doubt it was the linen covering the face of Yeshua. The Catholic church, from Constantine's Mummy on have been consumed with finding artifacts of saints, and a linen covering with the imprint of a human face on it would have been just too much to pass up! Could it have been a burial shroud on which the oils had leached through bandages and stained it? Could be. Is this the shroud that covered the face of our Lord? I don't just doubt it, I don't believe it!
