Deuteronomy 28 lists all the bad things which will happen to the people if they don't observe ALL of God's commandments. Since MOST Christians do not believe in the 10 commandments or rather that it applies to them and they live good lives does this mean they are not considered among his chosen ones? Or is it that this chapter was meant only for those people of that time?

And they would apply to anyone who is called by His name, including Christians. I do not know what standards God uses to judge those who've been deceived but try to live up to what they know. They do have Bibles and can read, so there will be some accountability. Then there is this: Matthew 5:19 (ESV) Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The gist of my question Dan is that it has always been my thinking and gut feeling that God disciplines only the ones he loves. Doing some research now I found this:
Citing Proverbs 3:11-12, the writer of Hebrews wrote: “do not take the Lord's discipline lightly or lose heart when you are reproved by him, for the Lord disciplines the one he loves” (12:5-6)
Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
King David and Moses best examples I think
This might explain why so many so-called or self professing believers who disregard the scriptures live their lives happily without bad things happening to them, what's your take on this please? Or to put it bluntly, if one claims to be a believer and follower yet do things against God's commands, does this mean you are NOT one of his chosen ones?

Or to put it bluntly, if one claims to be a believer and follower yet do things against God's commands, does this mean you are NOT one of his chosen ones? I think first we need to distinguish between punishment and discipline: and he disciplines His own: punish- 1. To subject to a penalty for an offense, sin, or fault. 2. To inflict a penalty for (an offense).discipline- 1. Training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement:One has to do with justice, the other with character improvement.God does punish the wicked:Proverbs 11:21a Be assured, an evil person will not go unpunished, And as you point out, He disciplines those He loves. But what about the biblical terms; what do they mean?Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. chasteneth- παιδεύω paideuō- to train up, educate, discipline: chasten, instruct, learn, teach. Proverbs 3:11-12 “do not take the Lord's discipline lightly or lose heart when you are reproved by him, for the Lord disciplines the one he loves” discipline- מוּסָר mûsâr- chastisement; reproof, warning or instruction; restraint- bond, chastening, chastisement, check, correction, discipline, doctrine, instruction, rebuke.reprove- תּוֹכֵחָה tôkêchâh- chastisement; correction, refutation, proof: - argument, chastened, correction, reasoning, rebuke, reproof, be reproved. And that all fits. So both the believer and the unbeliever may be penalized, but the distinction is in the reason. God's justice demands that the those who reject Him and do evil be punished. Maybe not until the judgement, or maybe in this lifetime, but their punishment is sure. When is not as important as why in their case. But in the case of the believer, our punishment will probably e a little quicker since it is meant to teach us a lesson; adjust our thinking to make us a better person. A more righteous person. Sanctified, set apart to Himself. Allowing us to continue in a ruinous behavior would develop bad habits that are hard to break later. Of corse we still have free will and so can "take the Lord's discipline lightly or lose heart," or even rebel when He disciplines us. Then we tend to develop some really bad habits that are very difficult to deal with later on. So the wise man sucks it up and deals with it when the Lord disciplines him. And pity the one who rejects God and just gets punished.
