Oh one last thing please, what about showering during Yom Kippur, is that only Rebbinical? Not even all Rabbinical Jews practice this and other Rabbinical traditions. Fasting is all that is commanded, and we take that to mean not eating. The actual term is to "afflict" ourselves, which is a euphemism for fasting. So be kind to others: bathe.

Also, I have noticed over the years that the folks on Daystar TV run a marathon soliciting people for money on the Holy days itself like today. Should this be happening, biblically? I just heard Marcus Lamb say it's "worshipping God in a tangible way on the Holiest day of the year"

I just heard Marcus Lamb say it's "worshipping God in a tangible way on the Holiest day of the year" Traditionally Jews do give on holy days. My only caution is that with the vast majority of those TV solicitations thy are all about making money and very little about helping anyone else. Same with phone solicitors. When I give I like to first decide for myself what I wis that money to accomplish, then I find a charitable organization with a good track record that best accomplishes what I wanted.
There are several organizations that rate charities based on slightly different criteria. Just a few:
www.charitywatch.org/charities www.charitynavigator.org/ charity.lovetoknow.com/Rating_Charitable_Organizations
A search should turn up several more ratings orgs.
I particularly look for orgs where at least 80% goes to those they say they help. However I like to try to find ones closer to 10%. Some I give a bit more leeway because they do other things to help, like hiring lobbyists, running news services related to their field, hiring pilots, planes, crews to help people make aliyah, etc. Others I am more rigid in getting close to that 10% because all they do is collect money for their cause. Note these are arbitrary standards I set for my own giving criteria. But I find they are usually easily met by serious charities.
As to whether these people should be on TV working to raise money on Yom Kippur, no. My opinion is they should not. But that's just me, and since I cannot set halacha for anyone you'll have to answer whether you should watch them or give to them for yourself. Some would say we shouldn't be on the computer at all today. Others say things like this forum are ok. I obviously hold the latter view.

Pastor Lamp said yesterday that Daystar has two accounts, the business which pays their salaries and all Admin costs and the separate donations account of which every cent goes towards charities, assuming this is true then I would say it is a good thing but to do it on God's Holiest day is what I question.
Reason I watch them for part of the day is because Larry Huch in particular to me has a nice way of explaining scriptures. As for using computers or watching tv, using phones on that day or during Sabbath MY belief is as you've stated if for use in relation to God.
I spent yesterday not talking to anyone on the phone, spent time reading and researching a lot of things regarding Yom Kippur on my pc, watching a Service and praying along with them on my pc and watching 3 movies which I do each year on this day while praying in between.
The 3 movies I watch are Samson and Delilah, David and Batsheba and the Jazz Singer. All 3 of those movies reveals things to me about sin, forgiveness and mercy. So I use that to guide my prayers, if it is wrong then I will answer for it but that is my way of doing things whether the use of technology is wrong or right on those days.
