Hi All,
I joined this group back in 2016, but never took part in it. I logged in, today, thinking I'd found something new, so I tried rejoining. If any moderators see my request to join, could you please delete it? It's under the username HaChamorSabra. Thanks!
Now, to get on with... introductions.
I grew up in a Southern Baptist (SB) background. Joined the USAF in 1978. Traveled the world. Studied about Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, Shintoism, Buddhism, Wicca, New Age philosophy, Satanism, always measuring them against what I believed to be the truth. From what few shreds of truth I had from my SB upbringing, I was kept safe. I got involved with apologetics around 1986. I'm still deeply involved with it, but with quite a bit more force with the truth of behind it. I began to see that no matter how much one might argue for their faith, arguing for one's faith doesn't necessarily bring about any sort of righteousness. I learned that the hard way. I saw a quote from Alfred Adler, one time, that summed up my belief about that. He said, "It is easier to fight for one's principles than it is to live up to them." I couldn't agree more. Anyway, I started on my way toward being a Observant Messianic Believer (T.O.M.B.) around 2000, but was never sure of it. That all changed in 2005. I began deeper study in finding the Messiah throughout the Tanakh. Everything exploded at that time. Anger, disappointment, disbelief in having been lied to for the length of my entire life and seeing those lies propagated for thousands of years. Strangely enough, it was a friend in Wicca that started me on my journey. She questioned my beliefs, showing me in pagan thought, where so many of their elements were adopted by Christianity. Well, to quote Guy Fleegman in Galaxy Quest, "Ohh, that's not right!" A couple in Texas who had known me from the early eighties had me in mind, for years. One time I stopped by their place, just northwest of Fort Worth, Texas. They introduced me to their teacher. I was bowled over by what he set before me, in understanding. I've not let go of the message, since then. Finding incredible things all through Scripture has strengthened me, immensely. It's also somewhat depressing in taking the time to talk with others about it, especially back in Christianity. There is a scene in the original move "The Poseidon Adventure," where Gene Hackman's character, who is leading a small group of people through the ship to freedom, meets another group who is going the wrong way. They try to tell the wrong-headed group, but they simply wouldn't listen. If anyone is into philosophy and is familiar with Plato's Cave allegory, then you'll know just what I speak of.
As it is, I'm glad to have made my way back here. I hope that I'll be able to add a little bit to this group, as well as take away a few things for myself, so that I might be able to share with others. I'm going to go exploring around the forum, now. Maybe I'll find something to speak to.
