Shalom Rory, Sorry it took so long to respond. As usual, I have been pre-occupied with local ministry work. The Hebrew word for “sage” or “wise man” is “Chocham”. It comes from the root word “chokmah” (H2451) meaning “wise” or “wisdom”.I hope this helps, Re’uel

I think Ruchama has hit on the word that is generally used for "sage." It does literally mean "elders."

Thank you Nachshon for your input,
But, for a fact, “Chocham (pl. Chochomim)” is the Hebrew for 'sage' or ‘scholar’. Although, “zakein” means “elder” and many times a “Chocham” is an elder…at the same time an elder is not always considered a sage or scholar. The following are just a few of the places in scripture that the word in question is used: Gen 41:33, Exd 36:1-8, Job 15:2, Pro 1:5, Ecc 2:14
Shalom,
Reuel

Shalom Yochanan,
I have also found this to be true.
Shavua tov!
