Can this be why Christians say they are no longer under the law, when Christ died or is this scripture referring to something else? Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.

How could you think that, when Christ told you to not think that way.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets."
What ever Jesus meant by fulfilling the law, the one thing it cannot possibly be is abolishing the law.
Sinning is how one comes under the law. i.e. a murderer it under the death penalty of the law.

It would help when you quote scripture if you give the chapter and verse. theloveofgod.proboards.com/thread/3566/matthew-5-17-18 Christians do use this to say the "Law" is done away with. They pull out one statement, "I have come not to abolish but to fulfill," and as jimmie said they ignore the rest. They apply the one meaning of ALL the meanings of fulfill that contextually could NOT be the case, and they use that to support their doctrine of "Do what your evil little old heart tells you." Even the phrase they use shows the foolishness of their position. To abolish is to do away with. They also define fulfill as to do away with. So in essence they are saying "He didn't come to do away with the Law, He came to do away with it!" Right ... ???
I'm sure these CHristians mean well. But they are repeating lies handed down from the pagan church fathers. We have to show them how to open their eyes and think for themselves.

My thinking is the "until all things have taken place" they think this means when Christ died the law was nailed to the cross, at least that is what I am understanding from what some Christians have told me.

I take it you mean "Until He comes again." What about the Millineum?

Yes. What's your question about the millennium?

Yes. What's your question about the millennium? Will Torah (to most, the "Law") still be in effect during the Millennium?

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. You are correct. However if you are going to convince your Christian friends you have to know it is so, and know where it is said. Isaiah 2 is a clear Millennial prophecy, and it speaks directly of Torah:Isaiah 2:3 (KJV) And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law (תּוֹרָה Torah), and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
This is just one of many references to Torah or parts of Torah in Millennial prophecies. You should do a search and read them. Far from being done away with, Torah will be effective on through the Millennium!
