I decided to start memorizing Psalms and learning hymns on Saturdays as kind of an offering and worship. I suppose some might call it work, but it has been moving and meaningful so putting some up here that kind of hit me hard today.
There are some old hymns that almost lay out the plan of salvation, and I also think the rhyming and melody are really good for kids to be able to catch onto and keep in their minds and hearts. I'm trying to fill my kid's minds with G-dly things to help overcome the evil around them. Since, beginning doing this my daughter has went to sleep with her lights off and so I think it's possible that it's making a difference. I have been worried about her quality of sleep, and all that cycles out of control based on that, but didn't know how to address it. I know G-d has stepped in to address something I didn't know how, and perhaps these things in her mind are a way He is helping.
There is some nostalgia on my part, I know, but I really do think these are songs worth keeping in our hearts and minds. ( I had your son a bit in my mind too mystic because of our kid's similar struggles) I just think there's something pure and simple and powerful in many old hyms. I also think they're easier for kids to memorize, so I'm hoping they're there for them to draw strength from in whatever difficult moments they face. Maybe someone else will be encouraged and it makes sense for you're kids who have trouble memorizing or focusing too.
I'll just write the words and anyone whose interested can look up the music if they don't know it. I am trying to sing and play more of this kind of music for and around my kids because I know it will stick with them without them even trying. G-d has given me a heart and conviction for encouraging people to teach their children lately so sharing this because of that as well. When they don't know how to pray or come before G-d or hasatan is shaming them, something as simple as this may make it a lot easier to pick up a Bible or pray.
Jesus Paid it All
I hear the Savior say, "Thy strength indeed is small,
Child of weakness watch and pray, find Me in thine all and all
Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe; sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
L-rd now indeed I find, Thy power, and Thine alone
Can change the leper's spots, and melt the heart of stone
Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe; sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
For nothing good have I, whereby Thy grace to claim
I'll wash my garments white, in the blood of Cavalry's Lamb.
Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe; sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior
Pass me not, O gentle Savior, Hear my humble cry;
while on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by.
Savior, Savior, hear my humble cry; while on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by.
Let me at Thy throne of mercy, find a sweet relief
Kneeling there in deep contrition, help my unbelief
Savior, Savior, hear my humble cry; while on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by.
Trusting only in Thy merit, would I seek Thy face
Heal my wounded, broken spirit, save me by Thy grace
Savior, Savior, hear my humble cry; while on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by.
Thou the spring of all my comfort, more than life to me
Whom have I on earth beside Thee, Whom in heaven but thee?
Savior, Savior, hear my humble cry; while on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by.
