If I am not in error, Jacob gave the birthright name of Israel to the descendants of Ephriam.
When the northern kingdom split off, their claim to the name Israel went with them. The first time the word Jew came into being was when the Assyrians used it as a shortened name for Judean. The southern kingdom which consisted of Levite s, Benjamites and Judaites were all lumped under the name Jews?
Since the Northern tribes left the middle east (I'm not saying where I think they went) Where is this birthright name of Israel?

I think that just as Revelaton still refers to the 12 tribes as "Israel" and names them...so it is today.
"I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the children of Yisra'el: of the tribe of Yehudah were sealed twelve thousand, of the tribe of Re'uven twelve thousand, of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand, of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand, of the tribe of Naftali twelve thousand, of the tribe of Menasheh twelve thousand, of the tribe of Shim`on twelve thousand, of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand, of the tribe of Yissakhar twelve thousand, of the tribe of Zevulun twelve thousand, of the tribe of Yosef twelve thousand, of the tribe of Binyamin were sealed twelve thousand." - Rev.7:4-8
And,
"He carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Yerushalayim, coming down out of heaven from G'd, having the glory of G'd. Her light was like a most precious stone, as if it was a jasper stone, clear as crystal; having a great and high wall; having twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Yisra'el. On the east were three gates; and on the north three gates; and on the south three gates; and on the west three gates." - Rev. 21:10-13
So, I believe that the birthright of "Israel" applies to all twelve tribes. It is interesting to note that those of the Goyim (Gentiles) must enter in through one of the gates of Israel.
Shalom chaver,
Reuel
