2 Chronicles 6:6 (ESV) but I have chosen Jerusalem that my name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’
Yerushalayim, chosen by El Elyon, Most High God as His city and capitol of Yisro'el. Ha'Eretz itself was given to the the Jews by this same El-Olam, Everlasting God (Genesis 21:33):
Genesis 17:8 (ESV) And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”
That is a deed from a higher authority than any or all Islamic governments; higher than the UN, and certainly higher than a shadow group who never had a claim or even existed before their desire to destroy Israel. I am talking of course about the so called "Palestinians." They claim Yerushalayim is their capitol and must be returned to them. Yet there is no historical record of their existence. Their claim to the land of "Palestine" dates only back to 1964 when the terrorist group the Palestine Liberation Organization was formed. Before that they were just Muslims who'd left during the 1948 war for Israeli independence. Promised a share in the spoils when the Jews were all killed they left rather than stay in peace as the Jews had asked many times. They were kept by their Muslim neighbors in crowded refugee camps, enduring squalid conditions because the camps were breeding grounds for terrorists. However there is no record of Jerusalim ever being the capitol of any Islamic state. Ever!
Jerusalem is never mentioned in the Quran either. It is mentioned 660 times in the TNK, and 146 times in the B'rith Chadashah. It is alluded to in synonyms several times more. Melech Dovid's capture of the city and establishment of it as the capitol of the Hebrew people in 996 BCE predated Muhammad by 1566 years. Islam would not become a religion for well over a century and a half after the Jews, whose history and religion dated back two centuries before the demon Allah ever put a thought in its disciple Muhammed's head. It predated the Muslim's capture of Jerusalem in the 16th century CE by 2500 years. And even then Yerushalay'im was capitol of YHWH Shalom, God of Peace (Judges 6:24):
Bereshis 14:18 (OJB) And Malki-Tzedek Melech Shalem brought forth lechem and yayin (bread and wine) and he was the kohen of El Elyon.
Malki-tzadek is the King of Peace, thought to be ruler of Yerushalay'im. The first mention of Jerusalem is:
Joshua 10:1a (ESV) As soon as Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, heard how Joshua had captured Ai and had devoted it to destruction, doing to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king, and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them,
Poetic parallel construction in Psalm 76:2 and Isaiah 9:6 equates Salem with Zion:
Psalm 76:2 (ESV) His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.
The Canaanite city of Shalem is the biblical cityof Shalom, Peace. Prophetically, Isaiah spoke of the Prince of Peace (Shalom) who would reign on the throne of Melech Dovid, which was in Jerusalem:
Isaiah 9:6 (ESV) For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The Temple Mount, ancient site of both past and future Temples is the most holy site in Judaism. Jews have always and continue to face towards Jerusalem and the Temple when they pray. The holiness of this site goes far back in Jewish history. It was on this site, then called Mt. Moriah, that Avraham was sent to sacrifice Yitzach:
Genesis 22:1-2 (ESV) After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
Jews to this day pray "May Messiah come speedily in our day, and may we see the rebuilding of the Temple." At the end of the Pesach Haggadah the prayer is said "Next year in Jerusalem!" It is Yerushalayim the Jewish people yearn for. Islam only wants it to keep it from the Jews.
