Another section of morning prayer is this part of the Talmud, it starts out with;
"These are the precepts whose fruits a man enjoys in this world, but whose principal reward remains in the world to come"
Then the list reads: honoring one's father and mother, acts of kindness (mitzvoth chasidim) attending the house of Study, greeting guests, visiting the sick, providing for a bride, escorting the dead, prayer, bringing peace, and the study of
is equivalent to them all.
Why is the study of equivalent to all the above? Through the study of , we learn to honor our earthly father and mother as well as our Heavenly Father, when the spirit of the living resides within us all, acts of kindness will be one of the fruits, attending Shul, HaBeit HaMidrash, synagogue, "Kehilah" is where we learn as well as at home, although at times, it is better to learn amongst others than alone, hospitality to guests, is this not want Abraham did? and he attended "Messengers of Hashem" who is to know if when we attend a "guest" or even a "stranger" we are attending an "angel" without being aware?
Visiting the sick and providing for a bride…. Would you not want visitors if you are sick? perhaps your visit is the visit that would lift a sick person back on his or her feet? how can we provide for a bride? the best provision for a bride and groom is "godly counsel!"
Escorting the dead….. One can easily escort the coffin of a dead person to the burial grounds, but one thing is to be physically dead, one can not change that, but have you thought about,, "escorting the spiritually dead?" One can be dead physically or spiritually" physically dead remains dead, but spiritually dead has a remedy, one can "escort the spiritually dead back to life!" One who ignores the, rejects the Living is "dead spiritually" one who knows the teaching and instruction of Adonai, can share this and teach this to one who has the open mind and heart to receive it…then…the spiritually dead will become "alive" who knows if you will be the one chosen for such a task. but of course, the "dead" must WANT to "live" otherwise, we will be throwing our pearl () to the swine.
Bring peace to others… many are called to be "SHALOMsters" "SHALOM makers" one needs a passive and "easy going" spirit, with "ears" to listen to both sides of the story, and wisdom to bring "shalom" in accordance to G-d's WORD.
That is why the study of is equivalent to all of the above mentioned, for without the study of , we will not have the understanding and wisdom to accomplish the other things mentioned.
