I posted an introduction here yesterday, which seems to have vanished into cyber space.
It took about an hour and a half to write, so mores the pity........."Space, the final frontier......... ".
Anyway, let me try again. I've had association with things Messianic Jewish, since about 1971, when we were then called "Hebrew Christians".
Sooo, I think that we have some real growing pains to go through still as a movement, in fact, maybe this whole generation might have to die off, or else a real persecution of ALL Messianic Believers, Jewish and otherwise, might help us to quickly grow up.
I don't necessarily wish for that, but it seems to be working in Eratz Israel, pretty well! lol
So, I thought about this quite a bit and I think and I believe giving you solid reading material which I've read myself, might be better then posting about my own life since 1971, and a lot less boring!
First things first: This one I just got yesterday morning, but so far, it looks like a real winner:
www.amazon.com/New-Testament-Hebrew-English-American-%D7%A2%D7%91%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%AA-%D7%90%D7%A0%D7%92%D7%9C%D7%99%D7%AA/dp/B01FFJ102M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491674048&sr=8-1&keywords=Hebrew+New+Testament+with+NASB+New+Testament
It's very nicely bound with a Modern Hebrew Translation of the Brit Chadasha, along side an NASB New Testament in English.
Check it out and see what you think. You need to be able to read some Hebrew of course, but there are many websites that teach Hebrew (many of them free) all over the net.
And here is my very favorite translation of the Tanakh:
www.amazon.com/Koren-Jerusalem-Bible-English-Scriptures/dp/9653010557/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491674624&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Koren+Jerusalem+Bible
They have slightly changed the name of this Tanakh, to keep it from getting confused with a Roman Catholic Bible of the same name.
I got it many years ago, when it was still called 'The Jerusalem Bible'. It's a GREAT translation, with slightly smallish print, but I have quite a few copies of the Tanakh, and this one is my very favorite edition.
There are several translations of the Koren Edition of The Jerusalem Bible now, I have NOT read them but if they are the same work as this, every shekel you spend on it will be well spent!
Here's one that I think is also helpful: www.amazon.com/Aramaic-Peshitta-New-Testament-Translation/dp/096796136X/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491675112&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Janet+Mageria%27s+Messianic+Peshitta
It's Jan Mageria's translation of her Messianic Peshitta. It's a lot different then say David Stern's 'Jewish New Testament' or his 'Complete Jewish Bible'. But I think that Mageria has NO bandwagon to push (so to speak). It's just her simple Messianic Peshitta. I personally like it a lot!
And speaking of David Stern's 'Complete Jewish Bible'.
Here it is: www.amazon.com/Complete-Jewish-Bible-OE-Bonded-Leather/dp/B00IH1A5OA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1491675458&sr=8-4&keywords=David+Stern%27s+Complete+Jewish+Bible
This is the copy that I use the most, but I also have the Large Print edition as well.
I understand that they have taken out the Yiddish, and added a lot of Rabbinical Commentary to David Stern's New Edition of his 'Complete Jewish Bible'.
But I have NOT read it (yet), so I don't want to be reviewing a Bible that I have NOT READ.
I'm going to list a New Testament that is NOT in anyway Messianic, but it's a fabulous reading New Testament, and one can always change the Anglicized words into Hebraic words, if you are proficient with Hebrew.
Just read the reviews here, I can vouch for everything that they say, and then some! This is just an awesome resource and a complete Greek into English New Testament as well!
Here it is:
www.amazon.com/Comprehensive-New-Testament-T-E-Clontz/dp/0977873714/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491675902&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Comprehensive+New+Testament
OK. First, this is the idea of "teach a man to fish........and he'll never be hungry" principle.
Provide people with really good resources and they can learn on their own, at their own pace.
That's what I've tried to do here, I hope that that shows.
A last few words, I AM NOT telling people to spend money on Shabbat, that goes without saying. But I AM trying to teach a little bit about really great Bibles to learn from.
So, after Shabbat is over, you have some great resources. Enjoy.
Shalom b' shem Yeshua, Shimun
P.S. I have found after shopping around the internet that www.alibris.com is *sometimes* cheaper then amazon.com. They certainly don't have as wide a selection of books, but the price is sometimes several dollars cheaper. Check it out, and see what YOU think!
And here is one more resource for Hebrew Bibles, and Brit Chdashas: bibleinmylanguage.com/
