TraditionsAre traditions a bad thing? Should we as Meshiachim follow traditions, or go strictly by commandments? What did Rav Sha’ul have to say about traditions? Speaking about head coverings: 1 Corinthians 11:2 (ESV) Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you.In a warning against idleness: 2 Thessalonians 3:6 (ESV) Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.And finally, an exortation to stand firm in their faith: 2 Thessalonians 2:15 (ESV) So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.

Traditions aren't bad in an of themselves unless they encourage wrong focus and misplaced priorities. I would say we will make our own traditions on some level regardless of whether we try or not. So if the traditions are consistent with the intent of loving G-d and neighbor as priority, especially if we see Yeshua doing them, than for the sake of unity and testimony we should keep them or at least not pick at each other over them. It's better than the confusion that would come from individuals just coming up with their own way. The problem is when they become the focus instead of G-d. I think for some people they can become almost a distraction, obsession, or an obstacle somehow.
