Hi, to all!!  Please excuse my present ignorance of The Hebrew language and traditions of Judaism.  However, I really want to learn!!  I am a 67 year old retired public middle school science (primarily) teacher.  I was not raised in a church-going family, although I did go through "Confirmation" in the Episcopal Church in 6th grade (New Jersey).  "Nan" (a North Carolina Southern Baptist) and I were married in 1973.  Attending her church (in which we married), I finally truly accepted "Yeshua" in my mid-to-late 30"s.  I have become really bothered by the blind acceptance of the theory of evolution and its teaching in our schools.  Coming to "Yeshua" as a "Doubting Thomas" skeptic,  I am a strong seeker of Truth, and look to many evidences God has left to us (Romans 1:20).  Children (in my opinion) can't be forced into believing something.  It just won't "stick" with them if if they don't sincerely "choose" to believe what has been presented to them.  I tended to be that way as a teacher to reach the "difficult /rebellious" students.  I have a lot of questions, ideas, and experiences to share.  For instance, I recently rafted the entire Grand Canyon with "Canyon Ministries".

My /our wonderful, 100% Holy, awesome Creator/Savior God is so far beyond my meager mind, that my comprehension is as a grain of sand on a huge beach!  However, I believe that His full Truths are in HIS HOLY WORDS (Genesis---Revelation).  I am humbly joining your forum not as one to impart knowledge, but instead to learn!!!!  There is so -so- so- much of which I am ignorant!  I am 100% open to correction and teaching.  I will never force my thoughts on you or belittle you for yours.  we are "fearfully and wonderfully" made by our incredibly , mysteriously, amazing Creator!!!!  Thank you, all!!---------Rick Smith ("nanandric")

Rick, welcome aboard!

This forum is all about digging out the truth- God's truth- from scripture as well as history, science, theology and other writings; anywhere truth can be found! I believe that just as the B'rith Chadashah (New Testament) cannot contradict anything in , neither does science (true science) contradict the Creator nor His Word. 

As to your not knowing Hebrew or everything about the infinite Word of Elohim; we don't either! We use some Hebrew words because they contain meanings not easily translated into English ... well, that and they sound kewl! And there is only One infinite being; and I'd take exception to anyone saying they completely understand Him. I sometimes try to meditate on the infinite nature of HaEl HaGadol, HaGibbor v’HaNorah- The Great Mighty Awesome God (Deuteronomy 10:17). I mean, to contemplate true infinity ... boggles the finite mind! So don't feel you have little to contribute. Even questions force us to dig a little deeper in order to answer. And anyone can have insights; to say nay would be to place limits on God. As a science teacher, yours will be unique and informative. I lack those skills, as my science labs were spent trying to talk to girls while surreptitiously applying forceps to the gas line of their Bunsen Burner, horsing around with friends, and generally being a nuisance. Yes, I was "one of those" students ... but I made up for it in college (community college ... low HS grades ... life can be SO unfair!).

Coming from a Baptist background myself, I can tell you this site will stretch your understanding, even radically altering it. Stick with us long enough at least to give Messianism a chance. Kids aren't the only ones who cannot be forced to believe. We don't force any beliefs or observances on anyone. We do however stand ready to defend and/or explain what w believe. Past that, it is up to you. However since you questioned the popular secular scientific explanations, and apparently (since you came here) have some questions about mainstream religion's explanation of scripture; I would say you are being called by Elohim to a higher understanding and purpose.

There is a lot in the archives, so feel free to browse and read. However if your questions are not answered there you may revive any thread and ask. Same if you have a different perspective. Also new threads are good if you have questions or comments not made elsewhere; or if you just think you need a new thread instead of using an existing one. Many people come here who never log in or even sign up. So if you have a question, chances are that it will help someone.

But enough rambling. To the primary point: Welcome, and glad to have you here!
