I have been trying to decide how to tackle the B’rith Chadashah portions for this coming year. I have not been able to find a satisfactory reading schedule for this. And frankly, the Christian (mis)interpretation of the pagan Greek copies (over 5700 at last count and rising rapidly, most of which disagree) tends to leave me somewhere between cold and angry much of the time. The truth is there, but finding it can wring me out. So instead of just trying to make sense of their mess, I thought ‘why not go on the offensive?’
I’ve said many times, here and before educated Christian leaders that “There is nothing new in the “New” Testament.” I was usually rounded on sharply when speaking with non-Messianics. But I always managed to hold my own. However I did some looking on the net, and lo and behold, many Christian commentators agree with me. For example:
Matt Slick, President and Founder of the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry said in an article: “The concepts in the New Testament were not derived out of thin air. Amos 3:7 says, "Surely the Lord God does nothing unless He reveals His secret counsel to His servants the prophets." What is mentioned in the New Testament is revealed in the Old Testament either clearly or in types and figures. Gen. 22 is a great example of the sacrifice of Jesus, the Son in Typology represented by the sacrifice of Isaac.”
Now, whenever I’ve “attacked” (read that explained) the B’rith Chadashah’s Greek interpretations here it has led some to question their faith, and sometimes people got angry with me or the forum. I have to agree with Rav S that those people have their faith/trust in a book rather than the author of The Book. At any rate, I’m not going to do that this time. Instead, I’m going to attack some of the Christian commentators; or rather their interpretation of scripture. It’s a departure from the traditional weekly readings. But let’s face it, so are the B’rith Chadashah reading portions each week. And I may get lynched for this, but there you have it. We’ll just see how it goes.
And don’t get me wrong; when I find one that is right, I’ll put it up. And when I find places where some are correct, even though the bulk of their work is wrong, I’ll acknowledge that as well. I may also go into some of the anti-missionary arguments as well. Who knows? You can PM me with suggestions. Suggestions placed on the open forum will be treated as any post. Please keep those questions or comments specific so everyone may respond.
The first one I am going to look at is one that starts out good, but later descends into Christian dogma. So you can read it if you want, here’s the document, from Baker’s Dictionary of Biblical Theology:

As always, anything I put up here is open to discussion. However please limit discussion to the portions which I am commenting on, otherwise the effort here will descend into chaos and I will most likely abandon it then.
Frankly, this effort will depend on the knowledge of scripture of jimmie, the knowledge of Talmudic writings of Benayahu, and the insights of Elizabeth. And the more others get involved, the better. Otherwise you all may be looking at my rather flat interpretations. We're not on a schedule, as with the other readings. So dig in and get involved!
I am placing this in the Early Christian Thinking and the Path Away From Judaism section because all these later writings reflect the ideas of the church fathers; and because, as this first article alludes to this thinking is at complete odds with Judaism, even though bearing some similarities. And much of our studies will deal specifically with this topic.

You might try tying the Parsha's to the commandments given specifically in the Brit Chadashah, as there are at least 1050 of them in this list I have been examining.
Note that the quote is KJV, but the Sourcing is accurate! You might try tying the Parsha's to the commandments given specifically in the Brit Chadashah, as there are at least 1050 of them in this list I have been examining.
... That would be quite a task if you want to take it on. But to do it right, you'd have to find every instance in the TNK where the commandment was stated, or in some instances just applied, as some of those are just exhortations. I'll probably have my hands full with just the commentators, though your list may come in handy talking about what they write. DC

I moved the post of the first document we'll examine to its' own thread. It looks like this one is going to get a bit long all on its' own, and I don't want to be discussing things other than the author's views in the thread.
Another note about this: I don't want it to be a bashing session. I'd like to discuss his views, the psychology or etiology or thought patterns that bring him to those views ... whatever. So let's keep the discussion objective. And if I fall into bashing, or if you perceive it that way, please speak up. It isn't what we say, but what others think we say or mean that is the essence of communication. So even though I might strive mightily not to savagely buffet the essayist with negative diatribe, still, I may (Too frequently) lose my composure. (And if my writing gets too pretentious you can call me on that too ... )
Seriously though, let's try to remember they are our brothers and sisters. They are in darkness (strives mightily not to make joke about locking them in the dungeon ...), but they are not wrong about everything. Let's just shed some light on the rest.
