How do one pronounce Elder - bakhiyr - בכיר I know the kh is gh or ch sound that is not the problem. It is saying the iyr after it. Is it like ghi-yer, ba-ghi-yer

Bachir. The second letter (from the right) is a "chet," so it would be pronounced like a cough. "Bakheer" is one phonetic spelling, where you pronounce both the k and the h; but it is a soft k. The a is like a sheep- "b-a-a-a-a." The ee is a long e, like in "eak!"
Hebrew is a guttural language, so it helps if you place your tongue near the back of the rigid part of your palate it is easier to form the letters and pronounce the words.

thanks Alon I know about chet and the pronunciation of it. What bothers me is the "iye" you get a lot of words that is "iy" pronounced as "y" or "ie" or just "y" or "ee" but you did spel it out for me there as Bakheer - ba-gh-ee-r so i got it thanks.
