I wanted to share this even though I doubt anyone here will be able to attend. It is still good to know what others are doing, and that Messianism can grow to be able to sponsor these kinds of things.
It wasn't on the flyer, but I asked and they will be doing tevilah for those who wish.
Don't miss out on the 2016 Men's Retreat!
We will leave shortly after oneg on Shabbat, July 30th, and will stay until Aug. 2nd.
Stay the entire time or just come up for a day. The location of our retreat will be at a cabin in the beautiful Lake Roosevelt area. Men, this is the perfect opportunity to escape for a time of refreshment, enjoyment, and great fun! This will be a wonderful time of fellowship and a time for the men of our community to strengthen our bonds with one another, as brothers and as servants of El Elyon. Whether it is during one of our times of prayer, study, and worship, or if it is during our other traditional activities such as; swimming, boating around the lake, knee-boarding, tubing, water skiing, canoeing, cliff-jumping, mountain climbing, barbequing, playing horse shoes, volleyball, target practice, when sitting around the bonfire, or while we recline in the cabin...you will have been glad to come, to leave, and eager to return.
B" H For the safety of others and for our overall enjoyment...we do have a few retreat guidelines that we ask you to observe while at the retreat.
1. There is some cost for us to facilitate the yearly men's retreat and to maintain the location of the retreat. So, we ask that each person attending the men's retreat contribute $10.00 beforehand, or at the time of arrival.
2. Ages 13 and above are welcome to join us.
3. Please, ask for permission first if you want to bring a pet...
4. Other than what the elders will bring to share, please, no alcoholic drinks should be brought to the men's
retreat. Furthermore, any other intoxicating substance, such as marijuana, ect. is forbidden.
5. If you do smoke tobacco, please do not smoke around the cabin, or around any of our children. If you must smoke...please walk down one of the trails away from the cabin before doing so. Also, please be careful about not starting a fire with a cigarette butt.
6. For the safety of all...please do not bring your firearm for target practice. The only exception to this will be BB guns, or bow and arrows, as they will be permitted for recreational purposes. If you do carry a concealed weapon it shouldn't be readily visible on your person, and otherwise should be concealed and secured.
7. Please bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages and be respectful of others' food and drink. ** At various times during our retreat we will come together for meals, at which time we often will cook and share with one another. You will likely want to bring some type of cooler, as refrigerator will be limited.
8. Each person will need to bring their own sleeping bag and/or bedding. The cabin can only sleep a limited amount of people, so if you have a tent, you may want to bring it...just in case. ** If you do bring a tent, do not set it up on the grass, or any of the sprinkler heads, or otherwise cover any of the sprinkler heads. A space for tents has been cleared on the property, in addition to other spots away from the cabin which are available.
9. We encourage each day the men join us for our daily times of prayer, study, and worship.
10. Please respect others' sleep at night. Granted, many of us will be up late, but for those who are turning in for the evening at a reasonable time...we should remember to keep our volume down. ** In addition, if you are known to snore at night, and it is considerably loud...please bring a sleeping bag and tent, or other sleeping accommodations, and do not sleep in the cabin, but in an area that you will not disturb others. Also, at night, please keep the volume down to a reasonable level, as we do have neighbors.
11. Each person should take time each day to help keep the cabin clean and free of garbage and debris.
Before you leave we ask that you take some time to help clean the cabin and leave it cleaner than you found it.
12. We will be on the Spokane Indian reservation. Please show the utmost respect at all times to the tribal authorities and to any of the local inhabitants.
13. Please, keep the peace. From time to time discussion can get passionate amongst brothers, and maybe even heated... Anyone who joins us for our retreat should prepare their heart and agree to maintain an environment of shalom at all times. Should arguing or a dispute arise, the rabbi or congregational elder should be allowed to settle the matter, and their judgment accepted.
14. And last, but certainly not least, have fun and enjoy yourself!
Thank you for your consideration. L'chaim!
I'm going to try to go for a couple of days if I am feeling up to it. I went a couple of years ago and it was a good time of fellowship. Also it is good to get to see my brothers there from time to time.
