Thank you for adding me to the forum
By way of introduction: For several years now I have been of the opinion that Christianity is more Jewish than westerners allow for - we seem to have changed what was essentially a Jewish gospel into something more 'palatable' to western ways. But at first, I didn't think that mattered too much, as long as we were worshipping God, the manner wasn't important. My view has changed somewhat.
More recently, I began to wonder why 'easter' was so far removed from Passover (in terms of date, as well as the way it is performed). We hadn't really gone into all that eggs and bunny stuff as we realised that had absolutely nothing to do with Christianity, but we had gone along with the date, not realising the origins of it all. Anything we had known of the history was dismissed as we had thought it acceptable for the church to have changed it to suit the western perceptions of what Christianity ought to be
At the start of this year (2016), for my Bible readings, I decided to read through the New Testament in chronological order by event. I got through the Gospels and realised I had been right about Christianity being Jewish! It was also really interesting to see what happened in what order and in relation to the Feasts too. I followed up my new found interest by buying a copy of a book 'The Master' by John Pollock. It is a life of Jesus based on the gospel of John and set Jesus's life and ministry into 1st Century Jewish history. But it wasn't very deep. I started to look for a biography of Jesus that would take all the four gospels and put them into the historical, social and political context of the time. I could not find anything that suited me, so I set about creating my own. I started the research for it about a month ago.
During that time, my eyes were opened to see that we should indeed be celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus at Passover and not 'easter'. I saw the paganism in 'easter' for the first time. Then, about a week or so ago, I suddenly realised that we worship on the wrong day too and we ought to be keeping the Sabbath (7th day) holy (I have a good few questions on that subject).
At that point, my research took off on a bit of a tangent and I began looking at what the Law means for Christians. Using the internet, it led me to some Hebrew Christian sites that gave me a different perspective and understanding of how to understand the Scriptures. After all, it was written by Jews for (mainly) Jews and therefore needed to be understood in that context. So, because I had many questions to clarify my new thoughts, I did a google search for a 'Messianic forum' where I could ask questions and read the questions and answers of others (I know I am not the first to be led in this direction, so many of my questions are probably answered within the forum anyway). I found two or three such forums, but felt that this one was likely to be the one where I could feel at home.
Looking forward to 'meeting' you all in the near future
