what about the herodians? this genre of Pharisee recieves very little exposure, and is crucial to what was wrong with religous life in Yehoshua's time. Has anyone got the skinny on why tthey were listened to? I mean their leader robbed his brothers wife, and then had John the Baptist beheaded when he was confronted by him. I think this pernicious little sect doesnt get enough bad press.I'm putting this thread in this section in here because i think Yehoshua was angrier at the herodians and the ones consorting with them than the real priests of the day.
PLease discuss.

The Herodians were more of a political party than a sect. They aligned more with the Sadducees than the Pharisees, although they were supposedly of the Pharisee sect. They were also supporters of King Herod, to whose protection and appointments they were beholding.
Mark 12:13-17 (ESV) And they sent to him some of the Pharisees and some of the Herodians, to trap him in his talk. And they came and said to him, “Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyone's opinion. For you are not swayed by appearances, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?” But, knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, “Why put me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” And they brought one. And he said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said to him, “Caesar's.” Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” And they marveled at him.
The reason they questioned Yeshua on this was that one of the things they were known for was their support of paying tribute to Rome.
While they were certainly at odds with Yeshua, I don't know that He was any more upset with them than with any others of any sect who broke the commandments or sold out His people. What evidence do you have of this?

A beautiful example of Yeshua's wisdom and his meekness in dealing with delicate issues. Instead of a harsh reply he answered with equanimity . Giving them nothing to say when Yeshua shewed them as not having as much wisdom as him in really important matters. "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" The Glory belongs to Adonai.
