Yom Yerushalayim ( יום ירושלים,)( Jerusalem Day ), sundown on Sat 16 May to sundown Sun 17 May; the Israeli national holiday commemorating Jerusalem’s reunification and establishment of Israeli control over the Old City in the Six Day War of June 1967. Jerusalem Day was declared a minor religious holiday by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, thanking God for victory and answering the 2,000-year-old prayer of "Next Year in Jerusalem".
Yom Yerushalayim is celebrated on the 28th day of Iyar (six weeks after Passover and one week before erev Shavuot). Jerusalem has been the capital city of the Jewish people since Melech Dovid conquered and built it as the seat of his monarchy (@ 1000 B.C.E.). After the Six-Day War, a municipal unification of the city ended 19 yrs of separation following the War of Independence in 1948 between Arab and Jewish suburbs of Jerusalem.
Yom Yerusalem is gradually becoming a “pilgrimage” day, as thousands of Israelis travel to Jerusalem demonstrating solidarity with the city. This show of solidarity is especially important to Israel and we as Meshiachim because the international community has not approved the “reunification” of Yerusalem under Israeli sovereignty. With the growth of anti-Semitism around the world many countries have not recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish State. The United Nations “partition plan” of November 1947 assigned a status of “International City” to Jerusalem, and far too many countries support the return to this status, despite the Israelis legitimate conquest of the city in a war started as a sneak attack on Israel.
We need to stand firm as proponents of Israel and the Jewish people. Take a proactive stance on holidays such as this and let it be known that you support Israel and the reunification of Jerusalem and its being the capital city. Too many people, especially liberals who frequent the liberal blogsites still think Tel Aviv is the capital of Israel. Too many people think Israel just up and illegally occupied Yerusalem. We need to debunk this thinking. Victory is won one small skirmish at a time.
Israel, among all the nations is the only one instituted by God, not man (Genesis 12:1-3, 13:14-18, 15:1-21, 17:4-8, 22:15-18, 26:1-5 and Psalm 89:28-37)
Genesis 12:3 (ESV) I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
Luke 7:2-5 (ESV) Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him. When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue.” (Yeshua was asked to go to the house of a Gentile and perform a miracle because this man loved Israel- and if you read further, He went! Furthermore, three times in one ch., Acts 10:2,4,& 31, it was said this man’s home was the first Gentile home to receive the Word and the outpouring of the Ruach HaChodesh)
Romans 15:27 (ESV) For they were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings.
Psalm 122:6 (ESV) "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you!” (there is peace in Jerusalem only as long as Israel controls it)
Matthew 25:40 (ESV) And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ (this speaks of Jewish people and believers- pagan Gentiles were never said to be brothers of Yeshua)
