"Strange fire before the LORD" (Leviticus 9-11) LEVITICUS 9:1 - 11:47 , 2 SAMUEL 6:1-7:17 , ACTS 10:9-22 We see this week that the sacrifices are commenced at the Mishkan, and all goes well..................until.....Nadab and Abihu get into it. The says that they offered "strange fire" before the LORD. Many often wonder as to what this "strange fire" was. The does not explain in detail, only that they were struck down by YHVH by fire. It might have been that they acquired their fire to put on the incense altar from someplace other than the brazen altar, thus , bringing a "wrong message" remember that the brazen altar symbolizes Yeshua, and to bypass Yeshua, is to bypass life. Perhaps Nadab and Abihu had some strong drink and thus were impaired so that they got confused, and thus , perhaps, made their "own fire" not realizing what they were doing. Perhaps they were not authorized to even offer incense. Maybe that was why YHVH told Moshe that those who would serve in the Mishkan, NOT to take strong drink, one has to be completely sober and in one's right mind when one comes before the LORD..............................In Lev 11, we see a list of Kosher and non Kosher animals, clean and unclean. We really need not to go into detail about those because it is plain that those are the animals that the LORD permits us to eat. Not all meats in the supermarket are approved by YHVH. But man thinks himself smarter than God, so he goes ahead and includes all kinds of unclean meats to sell and consume, including porky pig, shrimp, crawdads, bacon, call it what you want, inspite of the enticing aroma, we should stay away from all those, simply because G-d knows best and He knows what should go inside our bodies. _____________________________________________________________________________________ 2 SAMUEL : 6 - 7 We see the case of transporting the Ark of the Covenant to the city of Jerusalem, but in the Wrong manner, YHVH never calls for a cart and oxen to transport the Ark, it should have been transported on the shoulders of the Levites. Uzza had the right motive, but in the wrong way, One can be very sincerely WRONG had the Ark been transported on the shoulders of the Levites, it never would have almost fallen off the cart, and Uzza wouldn't have had to touch it. There are ways that may seem right, but when we go to the Bible, those 'ways" could be very wrong There is only ONE way to come to HaShem, and that is by Yeshua. _____________________________________________________________________________________ ACTS 10:9-22 We see the vision of Kefa, and many interpret this as meaning that now we can eat all kinds of meat, because G-d "cleaned" them up, But that is not the case, it is referring to the "gentiles" that when they come and abandon their idols and idol worship doctrines, and come to accept Yeshua as Messiah, they are Accepted also, just like the Jews from the line of Abraham, we are all ONE FAMILY (Mishpochah Echad) Each and every animal has been created in a certain biological and physiological way, and that way does not change, no matter how hard you pray for it to be "clean" When God calls "all foods/meats clean" he is referring to those that he has already created for our use in Lev 11. not what man has added to the menu. "Strange fire before the LORD" (Leviticus 9-11) LEVITICUS 9:1 - 11:47 , 2 SAMUEL 6:1-7:17 , ACTS 10:9-22 ...Nadab and Abihu ... offered "strange fire" before the LORD. Good d'rash sir. This is why we are Meshiachim (Messianics)- because there is One God, one way to serve Him and in the end, one people coming together to serve Him.
I have to believe that Nadab and Abihu had been well instructed as to how to present the fire before YHVH. They were direct descendants of the priestly line, probably close in the line for Cohen HaGadol! For whatever reason, they deviated and were killed for it.
Then we see Uzza, probably out of reflex, reaching out to steady the Ark. He took his responsibility in transporting the Ark very seriously, however as you point out they did it wrong. His act also showed lack of trust in YHVH to protect His Ark and keep it from falling. What we do reflexively may say more about us than what we say verbally.
But there are also those who would twist scripture to their own ends. Christianity firmly states that all things are made clean, when immediately we are given the interpretation of the dream and it had NOTHING to do with food! We dream in pictures, which are often difficult for us to interpret. This is even more true sometimes of dreams which are Divinely inspired. Those pictures always represent something, and seldom are simply pictures. In this case it is as you said, the pigs and such represented Gentiles (now don't that just make us feel all special!). Will they be stricken down in the end for their obstinate disobedience? I do not know, but I suspect many- by the estimates of most Evangelical pastors more than half their own congregations!- many are being led down that broad path to destruction. And I speak from authority there having grown up a PK and being privy to many conversations the average congregant will never hear.
