31. It is a positive commandment to rest from work on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement)
Vayikra 23:32 (OJB) It shall be unto you a Shabbos Shabbaton, and ye shall afflict your nefashot; in the ninth day of the month at erev, from erev unto erev, shall ye observe your Shabbos.
Leviticus 23:32 (CJB) "It will be for you a Shabbat of complete rest, and you are to deny yourselves; you are to rest on your Shabbat from evening the ninth day of the month until the following evening."
Whoever does work on Yom Kippur disobeys a positive commandment ... If it is done willfully the punishment is kareth [Divine severance from existence]; if unintentionally, a hattath (sin-offering) must be brought. Whatever labor is forbidden on the Sabbath is likewise forbidden on Yom Kippur.

If it is done willfully the punishment is kareth [Divine severance from existence]; if unintentionally, a hattath (sin-offering) must be brought. Whatever labor is forbidden on the Sabbath is likewise forbidden on Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year. If you observe no other moedim, you should observe this one. And it is clearly commanded in scripture. I plan to observe the no work restriction very strictly.
