Excerpted from "The Concise Book of Mitzvoth":
The way meat comes these days, unless you are fortunate enough to have a kosher source nearby, does anyone even know what to look for with this?

Shalom! I have always wondered why if this verse is meant to be considered " Law", why not phrase it in the common vernacular ? Hashem Spoke to Moshe, Tell the children of Yisra'el, they are not to eat this part "nerve"...Are there other verses that we can compare to this one?, verses were the children of Yisra'el do something that was not "commanded" to them through Moshe? Micha'el Hey, it was in th' book, so I put it up ...
But you are right, this one seems to be more a tradition which became law than a law given by Moshe.
Good call.

I think Jimmie means that the Feast of Lots, Purim, is another Jewish celebration that is not one of YHVH's moedim, but is beloved Jewish tradition. However, not eating the sinew is a commandment, so I do not get the connection to the previous post.
Where Believers from the Christian and Pagan origin are concerned, traditions outside the Scriptures should not be given with the force of Law, because traditions, no matter how marvelous, are not commandments of G-d, and should not be these should not be made into a mitvot as if given by Moshe.
As for not eating the sciatic nerve, it is one of the largest in the body, and fairly easy to remove for purposes of Kashrut. However, I've never seen a big tendon or nerve cord in a rump roast from any butcher, so it may be commonly stripped from the meat so as to not impede the relative tenderness of the meat. Long and big sinews are still used for the best string instruments, which is an allowed use of the sinew, and will get the butchers a nice side income.

Mat 23:1 Then Yeshua addressed the crowds and his talmidim: 2 "The -teachers and the P'rushim," he said, "sit in the seat of Moshe. 3 So whatever they tell you, take care to do it...
Hmm, never thought of the butcher making money on the side from it ... thx!

Yehoshua spoke to the people who were looking to Him for guidance while He was yet in human flesh, and subject to the Sanhedrin Himself, who were then so wise and honorable as to connive at Yehoshua's cruxifiction.
Yehoshua was cut off, and rose again, sitting down in a seat higher than that of Moshe, for He sits at the right hand of G_d, having given me a Counselor and teacher greater than any man in the Ruach haKodesh.
Consequently, when I am formally adopted into Israel, I will follow Rabbinical Jewish oral laws and precedents as if given by Moshe...if that is what Yehoshua wants at the time.
Until then, I will concentrate on what YHVH has already commanded in the that applies to me, a Messianic Gentile, living in the Diaspora, and to perform those mizvot in any way that will get them done.
When I can keep the commandments of G-d in full it will be time enough to accept the commandments of men.
