Gal 1:20 “I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.“
This is not clear in most translations, but Rav Sha’ul was making an oath.
James 5:12 “Above all, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.”
This is used to say it is wrong to swear an oath. Yet in Gen 24:7 God swore an oath. Num 30:2 & Deu 6:13 say we should swear oaths.
James was saying “don’t swear falsely!” If you swear, do it! The translators don’t put this in because they think most of the “OT” is done away with. Also the probability is that the Greek redaction didn't make this clear either.
Dan C
Gen 24:7 ADONAI, the God of heaven - who took me away from my father's house and away from the land I was born in, who spoke to me and swore to me, 'I will give this land to your descendants'- he will send his angel ahead of you; and you are to bring a wife for my son from there.
Num 30:2 when a man makes a vow to ADONAI or formally obligates himself by swearing an oath, he is not to break his word but is to do everything he said he would do.
Deu 6:13 You are to fear ADONAI your God, serve him and swear by his name.

So, what say you all?
Should we make oaths?
If so, how?
If not ... well, I suppose someone will say "Nay nay!" Why not, then?
