I have a question with regards to what it means by these two verses.
"A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth." Isaiah 42:3 NKJV
"A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench, Till He sends forth justice to victory;" Matthew 12:20 NKJV.
"He will not snap off a broken reed or snuff out a smoldering wick. He will bring forth justice according to truth." Isaiah 42:3 Complete Jewish Bible.
"He will not snap off a broken reed or snuff out a smoldering wick until he has brought justice through to victory." Matthew 12:20 Complete Jewish Bible.
Now the Complete Jewish bible uses smoldering wick. Does the wick and smoking flax mean the same thing? And for what purpose was the smoking flax used for?
My actual question is what does it mean when it states, ?a smoking flax He will not quench? Or smoldering wick?"

Moriah Ruth My understanding of the phrases is that Yeshua will be gentle with the spiritually weak...perhaps requiring very little of them to begin a new spiritual life, and then will help them to build themselves into strength as their souls prosper.
It has been so of my life, anyway.
Smoking flax/smouldering wick is a candle or oil wick that is nearly out, about to expire. This refers to the believer being on his last legs, with hardly a spark of spiritual life in him to be rescued, and needing a great deal of care to fan it into life again.
