Everyone keeps Shabbat in their owns ways in their own traditions.
I would very much like to know how my brethren and sistren keep this most Holy day.
Truly, I want to know how you prepare for Shabbat, how your Saturday evening unfolds, the ceremonies you follow, the blessings you say,the foods you eat, the services you attend, and how on Saturday day the hours unfold.
This day should be the most blessed of days each week, and I would like to understand how you all make Shabbat special.

(lol, after you nailed me on the "hart" I couldn't let this one pass!) The ideal would be everyone sitting down to a Shabbat meal, my wife lighting the candles ... the reality here is it is like any other day, except that I observe it quietly. I don't work unless it is necessary or a mitzvoth; don't do any monetary transactions except something like taking my wife out to dinner. I generally study. I'll go to church functions, even though they are mainstream- hey, you have to be amongst them to witness to th' heathens! Maybe someday I'll get to the ideal. 2 more days until Shabbat ... Dan C

Primarily I observe it as most do by following the commandment to abstain from daily work and a holy convocation with fellow believers. Thankfully my community worships on Sabbath though they are not observant. Therefore, they are my mission field. Otherwise, my wife and I spend it quietly mostly in Bible study, religious discussion, and REST... We avoid any commerce where reasonably possible. When practical (it is winter and freezing right now) we enjoy walks in nature as our bit of a tradition.

It is not as much I that keeps Shabbat but rather Shabbat that keeps me We start by preparing for Shabbat on Friday , two loaves of Challah bread, two candles lit by my other half and a family around the table as the prayers are said welcoming in the Shabbat. We study the bible, read the portion we will hear the next morning and pray that we will hear what He wants for us in the portion. We spend the next day at Synagogue and if it is still daylight we study the word with Friends until dark where we do Havdalah (Separate the Shabbat from the rest of the week) Shabbat is a special time with the Father. I pray Shabbat will be even deeper in understanding and meaning the more we rest in it. It truly is a time of separation from the world. "The whole world is waiting to sing the song of Shabbat"

My heart's desire is to observe Saturday as the Sabbath. However this is difficult to do. One reason is because my job requires that I work weekends, so this means the Sabbath day. There is only once in a while do I ever get to have Saturday or the Sabbath off. When I do it is difficult because my husband doesn't think that we as Christians should be observing Saturday as the Sabbath. He states that it is not for us Gentile believers. That it is for the Jewish people who are under the law. In all honesty I was trying to observe it several months ago, however it got to be difficult and frustrating for me. So I gave myself a break. Yet I do desire to continue doing so. And would like to start over. Next weekend it shows that I am off, however this could change. So I am looking forward to this. If I can not spend a day home being in quietness I will go to the library to read my bible and meditate as this is where it is quiet. My heart cries because I desire to do the right thing. Before when I did try to observe the Sabbath, I would try to get things completed before the sun sets. Then I would read from Psalms 119 and meditate from it. Then on day of the Sabbath if I was home then I would read several chapters from the OT and meditate from it. And just sit quietly enjoying the rest of the day. In the summer I love to go outside on the patio and sit there, read, meditate and enjoy God's beauty. Now on the Sabbaths that I do work I read a few chapters from the OT before going to work. And pray of course. And while I work I pray and just sit quietly by myself on my lunch hour and be quiet. This is my way of observing some of the Sabbath if I am working. Moriah Ruth

Moriah Ruth,
It sounds to me like you have made a lot of progress and are doing good things to grow into deeper Sabbath observance. God knows and understands our limitations. He is far more patient with us than we are with each other and sometimes with ourselves. Do not let Satan discourage you or cause you to criticize yourself or doubt our God. Keep going. Pray that God will lead you further and deeper. He will! Pray that God will make a way for you to avoid work on the Sabbath. He can!
When you get the chance try to find a Sabbath group for fellowship when you can. You will be immensely blessed. Ask them to pray with you and for you. It helps. God will bless and guide you.

Thank you Questor and Frank for your encouragement. I will keep going and trying. Simply I can't ignore what I believe that God is laying on my heart to do. It will be a hard path to travel in the beginning but my trust is in God. He will grant me strength.
