1Timothy 4:1 The Spirit expressly states that in the acharit-hayamim some people will apostatize from the faith by paying attention to deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
If we look at the letters to the seven churches in Asia-Minor in Revelation, and the period from Constantine through the early Roman Catholic domination; and the Protestant churches to this day- we see that it didn't take long for us to "apostatize from the faith by paying attention to deceiving spirits and things taught by demons." Since the time of Luther, we have questioned precious little of Catholic dogma (or the Nicolatians, for that matter) while all too often adding our own demons to our "faith." Even the Messianic movement has it's share of insanity. (see footnote ***)
So my question is, exactly when is the acharit-hayamim? It sounds as though all of church history since Yeshua qualifies- let alone the times before, when mankind in general and Yis'rael in particular went their own ways!
What will set the end times apart from the vast majority of history?
What will the time leading up to the end look like?

What I sense from the many times the Bible refers to end times, is that it did begin in a certain limited sense after the Messiah returned to our Father. There are various prophetic times when the meaning has taken a step forward. The meaning and application is increasing to a climax at the "Second Coming". A very deep and tricky subject. As is all prophecy...
We are seeing an ever increasing level of departure from the true faith, which is increasing at an alarming rate to an alarming level.

I think a study of the acharit hayamim shouldn't be limited to bad stuff such as departures from the faith. Good things need to be accomplished, for example, evangelizing the world (Matt. 24:14) and sanctifying the community of believers until they are "a bride to be proud of, without a spot, wrinkle or any such thing, but holy and without defect" (Eph. 5:27 CJB).

I agree absolutely! There are specific things God is going to accomplish and all true followers should immerse themselves in the study of what God is doing at this time. My favorite prophecy of the end of time and God's plans. Malachi 4:1 (19) For, behold, the day cometh, it burneth as a furnace; and all the proud, and all that work wickedness, shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall set them ablaze, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 2 (20) But unto you that fear My name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings; and ye shall go forth, and gambol as calves of the stall. 3 (21) And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I do make, saith the LORD of hosts. 4 (22) Remember ye the law of Moses My servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, even statutes and ordinances. 5 (23) Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. 6 (24) And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers; lest I come and smite the land with utter destruction. I especially like the part about "Remember"! If you are interested, I have done a deep study of this chapter. www.thirdelijahmessage.info/ElijahMessage.html
