Interesting question.

It could be used that way. In fact, Sacred Namers do use it that way. But I don't think God intended it for such a common usage.

I also don't think He intended that only the priests should know it either. We were given His name so that we could come to know Him, not so we'd have a password of sorts.

Just my opinion.
