I don't see any instructions in scripture about the required length of tzitzit. I'm guessing there is a ruling or two in the Talmud, if anyone knows of it and wants to share. Talmudic commentary aside, would it be acceptable to make shorter ones on a tallit katan? Possibly doing as Rick suggested in another post here and making T's into 4 cornered garments for every day wear with tallit. This would obviate the necessity of using a tallit bag to wash every T-shirt. Short tassels wouldn't tangle.

They're supposed to be long enough to be seen or felt but not so long that we make a spectacle of ourselves. They are for you and the Father.

Also, wrapping fringes in foil keeps them from tangling in the laundry.

As always, I find any mention of a topic in the Bible of far more value than any opinion. Our Saviour observed:
Mat 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
Almost all English translations are a bit awkward for this passage.
Matthew 23:5 They do all their works to be seen by men. They wear large phylacteries and long tassels. (FTCABE)
I believe it is clear from Numbers 15:37-41 that the tassels are indeed to be visible as a witness but based on our Saviour's observation they should not be long. Each person will decide what is appropriate for themselves based on the impression of the Holy Spirit.
I have often observed that almost any subject can be seen to have a desirable moderate position between two extremes. In fact, I often find a helpful beginning in understanding to identify the moderate and the extreme positions.

Yeah, I always say that if given two extreme opinions, the truth is almost always between the two somewhere; seldom is either extreme correct. Dan C

YHWH does not give us a specific length, so it does not matter, as long as we can see them ourselves. The tzitzit is for us to look upon-not for others to look at. I keep mine as short as possible, as long as they stick out from my shirts/katan. When wearing a dress, I attach them to the bottom of it, but of course I don't want them sweeping the floor, getting all dirty. I've been wearing them for a couple of months now, and so far, not one person has commented on them or noticed them.....which is how I want it! I already wear a headcovering, so I am singled out for being "different" than most believers....I sure don't want my tzitzits hanging way down for others to take notice of. I know they are there, so that's what matters, and what the commandment states.
