Jesus told us to pray ...Thy Kingdom come, they will be done. On earth as it is in heaven. I believe Zechariah 8 speaks of such a thing: 4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.
5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof. I believe Solomon built a vineyard, but God will give us our own. What if only those that come as a child can come? What if we must have our own oil. If we go to those that sell, and buy it, we will miss Him when He comes right? Perhaps when Jesus said call no man teacher, he meant it. I believe he was speaking of God's kingdom which has come as Jeremiah the prophet spoke: Chapter 32
3 But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be
their God, and they shall be my people.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. I believe we should pray expecting as Jesus told us to pray. He is here. He is alive. It's time to awaken. God hides things from the wise and reveals things through the mouths of babes. It is always so it seems. Those that are drunk already, are not thirsty. The wise know, but the little ones ask questions. Who can open the door that no man can open? One who thinks he has the key, but cannot open it, or the one who seeks for God to open it? If you can read this, please know that I love you. Be blessed! Pete |

I don't think we should call anyone teacher This is from Matt 23, and is one of those oft misinterpreted scriptures we Messianics like to point out.  - "1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat, 3 so practice and observe whatever they tell you--but not what they do. For they preach, but do not practice. 4 They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. 5 They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, 6 and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues 7 and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others. 8 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. 11 The greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. 13 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in. 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves. 16 "Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.' 17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? "
Read in context, this is an injunction against those who take on titles which they do not deserve, or abusing the authority a title gives them. It is also a warning for us to watch for these people. However since all of these terms are still rightly used it is foolish to think we are being told to do away with the terms. For example, it would be correct to call your own father "father." My opinion is it is wrong for Catholic priests to take on that title. Another example which might hit closer to home is the trend to have "rabbis" get their qualifications from a short internet course. Typically these people are not knowledgeable enough to bear that title. Some I've seen don't even know enough to get accepted into a yeshiva. They certainly know enough to lead a study group, which would be far more honest and credible. So scripturally that is what they should be doing and the title they should take: study group leader. Gal 4:18 It is always good to be made much of for a good purpose, and not only when I am present with you, Gal 4:19 my little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you! If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: Phil. 3:5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; As a Pharisee, it is reasonable to assume that Paul was called "Rabbi" by non-messianic Jews as well as messianic Of course with his education he earned the right to be called such. I believe that Rabbis often call their disciples "children." |

Yeshua was also called "Rabbi" (Mark 9:5, Mark 11:21, Mark 10:51, John 3:2, and several other places). However, I doubt either He or Sha'ul received their titles after a crash course in Messianic doctrine on the internet!  Or "talmidim." Maybe a few other terms of endearment or actual titles. My point is that we should be careful of the titles we bestow on our leadership, as well as who we follow. Dan C |
