The Karaites have a total disregard for the Oral . So I would say they definitely do NOT get it. The man in the video badly misrepresents Orthodox Judaism too. No big surprise though, because normally, when one wishes to discredit Orthodox Judaism, they do so by misrepresenting it through ignorance. Like his little story that he asked his Rabbi where the commandment to wash the hands before eating is in the , and his Rabbi is evasive, and tells him that he asks too many questions. In all my dealings with Orthodox Jews, I have never once ran into a Rabbi who was either unable, or unwilling to give an account as to why they believe what they do. The Karaites are an odd sect indeed. They claim that they do not follow the Orthodox Jewish traditions, but yet they wear kippahs! LOL They also claim to reject Rabbinic authority, and the Oral . But yet that have their own Rabbinic authority, and in essence, their own Oral . Talk about hypocrisy! By the way, each mitzvah of Orthodox Judaism has a spiritual significance to it. Something the man in the video does not understand, or is ignorant of. In either case, he has excluded that from his comments. Shalom

Sorry, David, but not adhering to rabbinic halacha (i.e., rituals and edicts not found in the books of Moses) has never been and will never be a violation of . Yes, the Karaites do get it.

If this guy is a Jew, let alone an "ex-pharasee", I'm the Pope's wife.
He is doing the al netilat yadaim backwards. You always take the negel vasser in the right hand, pass it to the left, and then wash the right hand. Next you wash the left. You do not wash the left hand first.
Any Orthodox kid would know why we wash our hands before having bread. If he claims he didn't know, his rabbi evaded the question and told him "he asks too many questions"...this also sends up a big red flag.
This guy is a phony as a the proverbial three dollar bill.

When did this happen? I wish you and the Pope every happiness. (Would you prefer a blender or a toaster for a wedding gift?)

No problem. Only the best for you and "Ratz".
Ordinarily, I'd recommend a family car, but given Ratz's age and ...uh...eh...lifestyle, I guess that won't be necessary.

I didn't even comment on anything like that, so I'm sorry, I don't know where your coming from. However, Judaism disagrees with you. Yes, the Karaites do get it. Get what? That's it's okay to reject the ? Yeah, they get that just fine....LOL

Exactly. If your going to attempt to discredit another sect of Judaism, you should at least know what your talking about. This guy doesn't have the first clue. Go figure.

I'd really like to meet Nehemia Gordon (you know; the Jewish guy in the clip who was raised Orthodox but knows next-to-nothing about Judaism). I'd like to find out everything else he knows but doesn't know and why his rabbis were such poor teachers. Could it be that they didn't have Semicha? ;D

I'd really like to meet Nehemia Gordon (you know; the Jewish guy in the clip who was raised Orthodox but knows next-to-nothing about Judaism). I have many Orthodox Jewish acquaintances who know next to nothing about Judaism [my boss is a great example. He came to me to see if venison is kosher...lol]. It's not unusual at all. And some Jews of sects other than Orthodox, like this guy, purposely misrepresent it. It's rather common actually. Shalom

Not to worry, tonga. I've ordered the new Pope-mobile. It's a modified Jaguar (excuse me, that's Jag-u-ar). Unfortunately, it will still have the goofy looking glass box on top, but I've ordered curtains for the box. That way, when if Ratz gets romantic, you can close the curtains.
And to help him out, I've also ordered a complete set of Barry White CDs.
(Zowee!)

David, There's a difference between nominal Orthodox and observant Orthodox. If your boss didn't know whether venison is kosher, he, most likely, is the former. Dietary is kindergarten for the observant Orthodox. Whatever his background, Gordon understands that Oral is man-made and not from the mouth of G-d. Shalom

Shalom Your assuming all Orthodox Jews know exactly why they believe as they do. That's simply not the case at all. It's no different than the Christians who haven't read but maybe a few passages of Scripture in their life, but go to Church every Sunday. Also, your assertion that the Oral is not inspired by HaShem is another assumption. One I disagree with, and have maintained through the entirety of this thread. If you want to applause this man for misrepresenting Orthodox Judaism, and the , be my guest. I've said what I needed to I suppose. Shalom
