(Jeremiah 3:8 Complete Jewish Bible) I saw that even though backsliding Isra'el had committed adultery, so that I had sent her away and given her a divorce document, unfaithful Y'hudah her sister was not moved to fear - instead she too went and prostituted herself.
Does the above verse really teach us that HaShem divorced Israel, whom He married at Sinai? Or is their another explanation/interpretation as to what this verse means?
Shalom

How does Jer 3:8 differ from Lev 7:27 “ Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.”
God has merely implemented that which he had decreed. Those souls of Israel were cut off/divorced from God because they wouldn’t accept his gift of salvation or covering of their sins against His law. Also, I believe this to be a “snap-shot” in time. The bill of divorcement only covered that portion of Israel that was alive at that time. I.e. Jacob didn’t get the decree, else God is not the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

I don't think so. I think this is a use of hyperbole to make a point. Yeshua plainly says that Gd hates divorce and it's only because of the hardness of their hearts that was an issue. If He is perfect he would not violate his ketubah.

A marriage is a covenant relationship, and a covenant can never be nullified. It can, however be broken. HaShem can never be the one to break a covenant, but we as fallible humans can and regularly do.
The Bible from Geneses to Revelation is a history of mankind breaking covenant and a loving God repairing that relationship by providing a way for us to return to Him.
This is a Dan C midrash I suppose, but the way I see it we can walk away, "allegorically" committing adultery and force Ha Shem to hand us a divorce decree. But He does hate divorce and separation from His creation, and His love is all encompassing, so He is faithful to restore us if we repent.
Read Jer 3:8 in context and you'll see this is actually part of a call for His people to repent:
Jer 3:9 The ease with which Isra'el prostituted herself defiled the land, as she committed adultery with stones and with logs. 10 Yet in spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Y'hudah has not returned to me wholeheartedly; she only makes a pretense of it," said ADONAI. 11 Then ADONAI said to me, "Backsliding Isra'el has proved herself more righteous than unfaithful Y'hudah. 12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north: '"Return, backsliding Isra'el," says ADONAI. "I will not frown on you, for I am merciful," says ADONAI. "I will not bear a grudge forever. 13 Only acknowledge your guilt, that you have committed crimes against ADONAI your God, that you were promiscuous with strangers under every green tree, and that you have not paid attention to my voice," says ADONAI.

B"H A separation took place...but, this really was not HaShem's doing...it was his wife's (Yisra'el) doing. The Navi Yehoshua (Joshua) describes Adonai as briefly abandoning His wife (not dwelling with her after her idolatry and unfaithfulness). But, by no means did He divorce Yisra'el...For she is His wife, and will continue to be so until the end of time... Yesha'yahu (Isaiah) 54:1-10 proclaims, "Sing, barren woman who has never had a child! Burst into song, shout for joy, you who have never been in labor! For the deserted wife will have more children than the woman who is living with her husband," says HaShem. Enlarge the space for your tent, extend the curtains of your dwelling; do not hold back, lengthen your cords, make your tent pegs firm. For you will spread out to the right and the left, your descendants will possess the nations and inhabit the desolated cities. Don't be afraid, for you won't be ashamed; don't be discouraged, for you won't be disgraced. You will forget the of your youth, no longer remember the dishonor of being widowed. For your husband is your Maker, HaShem-Tzva'ot is his name. The Holy One of Yisra'el is your Redeemer. He will be called the God of all the earth. For HaShem has called you back like a wife abandoned and grief-stricken; "A wife married in her youth cannot be rejected," says your God. "Briefly I abandoned you, but with great compassion I am taking you back. I was angry for a moment and hid my face from you; but with everlasting grace I will have compassion on you," says HaShem your Redeemer. "For me this is like Noach's flood. Just as I swore that no flood like Noach's would ever again cover the earth, so now I swear that never again will I be angry with you or rebuke you. For the mountains may leave and the hills be removed, but my grace will never leave you, and my covenant of peace will not be removed," says HaShem, who has compassion on you". And, Romans 11:25-27 states, "For, brothers, I want you to understand this truth which God formerly concealed but has now revealed, so that you won't imagine you know more than you actually do. It is that stoniness, to a degree, has come upon Yisra'el, until the Gentile world enters in its fullness; and that it is in this way that all Yisra'el will be saved. As the TaNaKh says, "Out of Tziyon will come the Redeemer; he will turn away ungodliness from Ya'akov and this will be my covenant with them, . . . when I take away their sins." Baruch HaShem v'halleluYah!
