Many false prophets shall rise and deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold. But he that endures to the end, the same shall be saved. We have been taught to read these three statements as individual bullet points, with no relation or correlation to one another. This is important because if we divide them, we can be the good guy (defining righteousness by our own terms) and make anyone else to be the bad buy. “false prophets” are thus conclusively anyone who disagrees with me. Lawlessness, however, is a pretty specific term when we understand that the audience to whom Messiah was speaking (His disciples) were Jewish, interpreting His words from a Hebraic perspective and with a Hebrew vocabularly. Lawlessness (ah-nomos) is the absence of Law. From the perspective of Messiah’s audience, the abandonment of . Those how “endure till the end” (hoopo-meno means to draw under like under an umbrella) in the phrase of Matthew 24:13 refers directly back to the subject articulated in verse 12 (lawlessness). Those who remain under till the end shall be saved. When we see these statements together, the position of dominant Christian theology is brought powerfully to task. Many false prophets shall deceive many, drawing them away from . The result we shall immediately see is that the love of many shall wax cold, and this we can see in direct correlation- the Christian Church is a self-serving mechanism, acts of charity are at best a obligatory by-product. Yet, those who are remain under will be saved.

Mark, We just got done reading that and I came in here and found your post. Thanks for expounding on this. It is reassuring, because little niggling doubts do come in, sometimes, when christians voice concern over me placing myself under the law. Choosing to bind myself, choosing to be under the curse, etc. ad nauseum. By the way, I am loving Club. It is an eye-opener, and encouragment, and a great learning experience.
