I wanted to share this reading with you out of Jeremiah Greenburg's Messianic Machtzur (High Holy Day Siddur). For me, it sums up what is the essence of Rosh Hashana
May the sound of the Shofar be remembered before You Lord, as we battle the adversaries that oppress us.
And may the sound of the Shofar remind us that You have promised to give us victory over our enemies.
May the sound of the Shofar awake us to the appointed seasons, and the call to spiritual warfare.
And may the sound of the Shofar shatter our complacency, and make us conscious of the corruption within us that still remains to be conquered.
May the sound of the Shofar awaken us always to the enormity of our sins, and to the vastness of Your mercy, to those who repent.
And may the sound of the Shofar break the bonds of enslavement to evil impulses, and cause us to always seek You for revival.
May the sound of the Shofar cause us to turn to You Lord, and come before You in repentance.
And may the sound of the Shofar cause us to say, "All that the Lord has spoken, that we will do."
May the sound of the Shofar cause us to renew our loyalty to You, the one true God, and Yeshua Your son.
And may the sound of the Shofar strengthen our determination to defy every false god, through the power of Your spirit.
May the sound of the Shofar release the captives in jubilee, and proclaim liberty to those who would be set free.
And may the sound of the Shofar release gladness over our offerings, and be a memorial to You Lord, a way in which You are remembered.
