There are three elements that are consistently found in the process of cleansing in cases where death is concerned. These elements are cedar, hyssop and scarlet.
Scarlet is primarily understood as the crimson blood red color; but is specifically the name of the source from which this color is dyed. It's a bug- specifically the crimson maggot.
Cedar trees are common in the land and are well known for their strength, their sweet odor and resistance to mold.
Hyssop is a cleansing herb that is used for many medicinal purposes including an antiseptic, antiinflamitory and used to relieve indigestion, pain, nausea, sleeplessness, and so on.
These three elements show up in the cleansing of the leper (commonly understood to be as the walking dead) in Leviticus 14 and here when one has been exposed to a dead body in Numbers 19.
