Let's talk about discipline/corrective action that takes place in the congregation. What should happen when a member is blatantly sinning? How should the congregation's leadership react? Feel free to express your view.
Shalom,

You just love to hit all those hot buttons don't you? :-)
The first thing I want to know is how did this matter end up going on for so long that it ended up before the leadership?
What happened to the works of teaching, helping and discipling which should be occurring in the first place?
Who was gossiping so much that it ended up being a matter so familiar to the church?
I am quite familiar with discipline in at least two churches having been disfellowhipped twice. I could tell you about how a church should not react but lets review what the Saviour says.
Matthew 18:15-17 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
One person should never judge another. If you observe someone engaging in what appears to be a sinful practice you should ask them about it or forget it. You must be willing to understand and help that person.
If someone wants to tell you about someone else say, "Wait a minute, may I quote you."
If they say something like, "Well, I'm not sure that would be a good idea."
You say, "Then I'm not interested in hearing what you have to say. If you're not interested in putting your name on it, if you're not interested in being there when we talk with the individual, then I'm not interested in hearing what you've got to say."
When this matter comes before the church, how do you treat a heathen? With all the love and compassion of the Messiah to win the soul for the Lord.
Need I say more?

This is some great wisdom. I am part of the leadership in the Messianic Congregation that I attend, and I am sure learning alot about how things are to be handled, and techniques to use in regards to fulfilling Yeshua's instructions. Todah Reuel

Frank's Bible verses are very good I would like to add just one more. Galatians 6:1 "Brethern, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted."

Thank you Curt! That is a very powerful verse and a fantastic summary of the Messiah's words. Oh how I wish that those who follow the Messiah would follow those words. This is very personal for me because I know how much help I needed with my problems and how little I got from the church. I am also reminded of the Messiah's words.
John 8:7 He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone...
