There´s a good Proverb a teacher of mine one´s told me. Give a hungry person a fish and he´ll be helped for a day. Give him a fishing rod and he can help himself all of his lifetime. Shaul our Apostle (may the Lord remember him) once commanded the poor believers to get jobs so that they could also help other poor people. It´s a difference to give a beggar just because he asks for something and one is embarrassed to not give and to give with a joyful heart with the goal to really help. Surely sometimes direct help is essential. If we see areas with imminent or momentary need such as Congo right now it is our duty to help directly. However on a long term basis it makes much more sense to help create jobs or to help the neighbour children with their homeworks that they might receive a good education. It always depends on the situation how we do our charity. To the question whether giving everything a person asks. This of course has to be interpreted correctly. If the request is possible and in accordance with the commandments than it is a duty. But if the beggar was asking you to give him your pants leaving you naked on the streets you surely wouldn´t have to help him that way. Peace and blessings be upon all of you in the name of Yeshua

I didn't judge her at all, shes no different then a college student doing drugs trying to get there fix for what ever reason,
I am still up set with myself for not giving her $2 ,
I give to a lot people, I just gave my furniture to this lady that didn't have any for free,. I have OCD pretty bad all I did with it was change it around and never sat on it.. and all of the time if I see a women on the streets asking for money I give it to them.. but this time I didn't. : (

Giving to anyone in need is one of the ways to act by the and obey it. " Shaul our Apostle (may the Lord remember him) once commanded the poor believers to get jobs so that they could also help other poor people" Working is a command we should teach to others. Helping them to be productive for the kindom of Adonai, they should learn the blessing of it's better to give than to receive.

Most of the people who need it for "gas", "food" other things are not legitimately in need. They are, as you noted, generally druggies, alcoholics, or those who make a better living shnorring instead of working. and you do them no favors by enabling them to continue to live this way, but at the same time take away giving to someone who is truly in need. I as a rule limit my giving (unless I am certain someone is truly in need) to organizations that help others. I know the money is going directly where it is needed, I am not enabling those who have habits that they do not seek help for, and I am not taking away from those who are truly in need.

Hey guys, This is an issue that has long been a tough one for me and my brethren to deal with. Yeshua seems to teach his talmidim in Matthew 5 and Luke 6 (I think) that if anyone asks us for anything, we should give it to them. It has always seemed incongruous to ALWAYS give beggars whatever they ask for. For example, a known crack-head (we get them where I live) approaches me and asks for some money, am I commanded by Moshiach to give him whatever he asks for whenever he asks for it? How do you guys deal with this? Having been opened up to YHWH's , is there anything in there that would influence our actions in such cases? Any feedback would be really appreciated. The other day a man approached me on the street. I could smell the Marijuana on him and his eyes were bloodshot. He asked me for a couple dollars. What I did was send him away. But I don't think that's how I should have responded. We were standing just a short ways away from a McDonalds. While I don't want to enable his habit, I could have bought him a meal. What was he really asking for? Was he really asking for pieces of paper with dead presidents on them? I don't think so. He was asking for help. I think Mark has hit the nail on the head. I don't believe Yeshua is telling us to literally give exactly what the person asks for. It is to give them what they really need instead.
