Throughout the , the idea of substitution is prolific. In the offerings for sin, the Israelite places his hands upon the head of the animal to be sacrificed, signifying that the animal is acting in his place, being sacrificed for his sin. The Scape-goat bears the the iniquities of the people, having been laid hands upon by the High Priest. In Numbers 8, the entire house of Levi knees and the entire congregation of Israel places their hands upon them as the substitution: the Levites now serving Adonai as ministers, literally, as representatives of all Israel. How does our relationship with the Messiah tie into this concept?
