Hobab was Moses' brother-in-law what had apparantly joined with the Israelites when his Dad returned Zipporah and Moses' sons; but remained with them until now.
In Numbers 10:29, Hobab says good-by; but Moses asks him to remain. There are a couple of reasons suggested. One is out of concern that if he leaves, the surrounding enemies may learn from him what is the people's military strength and the course they are taking and thus make them vulnerable to attack. The second reason is that Hobab knew the area and would be a good scout for them. Both reasonings suggest a failure in Moses to place his confidence in Adonai for their protection and guidance. Might there be another interpretation or does this suggest the human weakness of Moses?
