In Numbers 10:35, Moses declares, "Arise O Lord and let your enemies be scattered, and let those that hate You flee from You." When the people would travel, they would be led by the Ark of the Testimony, within which lay the stone tablets of the Law. In Jewish liturgy, this prayer is combined with "for from Zion will go forth the and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem." This is quoted from Isaiah 2:3, where it is said that many nations will follow after in obedience. The visual image is that the enemies are parted and the people of Israel pass through the middle of them; but then the nations, seeing who Israel is, follow after yearning for the peace and power that comes with being united with God's covenant people. How interesting that Israel passes through the nations and the goes out from Jerusalem. Current thinking is otherwise, that is contained and protected within the Hebrew people and the nations are left outside to do their own thing.
