Mazel Tov! The next step is to start studying and learning by following the weekly parashot. This is the intent of the halachic ruling of Acts 15. We're covering parsha Bo (Exodus 10:1-13:16) this week. Of course you're always welcome to read the previous parashot as well. Note: Make sure you read through the commentary in the Chumash while reading the parsha. There is a lot of insight to be gained there. Also look for commentaries here, at bereansonline, and make sure you check out www.aish.com. I cut my teeth on their commentaries and still enjoy them to this day. {You can also sign up for the Shabbat Shalom weekly there.} Shalom, Natanel

Shalom, Akhiy, I'm the forum Karaite. The official outkast. <G> As such, I feel it is my duty to tell you that there is another way of thinking. I do not use, or even like, the Chumash, because it places too much emphasis on the authority of the sages. I strongly disagree with the rabbinic view of things for reasons that I can give if anyone so desires. I have found many times places where I disagree with the sages for many reasons. (for instance, in the last portion, the plague of frogs. That is translated frogs mainly because Rashi said they were frogs. But David tells us that the "frogs" destroyed Egypt. That seems a little odd to me.) I find the sages to be...questionable. Their authority dubious. Call me a rebel, but my only rabbi is Yeshua, and I believe that if we are able to overlay especially the Gospels on the , we really need no other commentary. Shalom, David

Hi David, First I understand that Yeshua is our Rabbi. But don't we also need sources that will help us gain better understanding? Honestly I just got the Chumash? Is it a commentary? Shalom All,
Nachshon is certainly correct in saying that there is another way of thinking. And for that matter, one is free to think any way that they please. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I disagree with the Karaites on several grounds, but this is not the appropriate thread to discuss that. Perhaps I will start up a new thread at some point in time.
Marc,
Yes, it helps greatly to use additional sources to enhance our understanding. It is especially important for those of us who are Jewish to use and learn from these resources.
The Chumash itself is not a commentary. If you flip through it you will notice that there is commentary on the bottom of each page. This is what I was referring to.
Shalom, Natanel

Akhiy Marc, I do not think that additional sources are really necessary. I have done a lot of work trying to overlay the Gospel accounts over the Portions. I have found large portions that follow the down the line. I believe that this is the only commentary we need. The challenge is to find where it matches up. I am not attempting to push my way of thinking on you, or anything like that. I just wanted to make sure that you know it's out there. Join the Dark Side: we have cookies. :-D Shalom, David

If I recall correctly you recently purchased the Stone Edition Chumash. In it you will see that the is broken down into portions, and there is a weekly cycle of portions. The link below will show by date what the reading is. For instance the portion this week is "Bo" from Exodus 10:1 - 13:16 www.hebcal.com/sedrot/Hope this helps. Shabbat Shalom, Yitzchak
