I had the information about this movie send to me from Eretz Yisrael. I have not yet seen it, but have watched the trailer, and it looks quite good. Some members of my congregation saw it last week, and loved it. It seems to be only playing in limited release here in the States. www.ushpizin.comShalom, Yitzchak

I saw Ushpizin last weekend. It was quite good. It gives a fantastic portrayal of Breslover chasidim in Israel, and some of their emphases on joy and intimacy in their relationship with Hashem.
Without giving too much away, the plot revolves around a poor fellow who is struggling even to put together a Sukkot sukkah. One point that is not clearly spelled out is that the fellow and his wife are converts to Breslover chasidism. They wrestle very briefly with the option of going back to their old lives.
The complicating factor in the story is when a couple of fellows from the "old life" show up, and ask for hospitality. They are allowed to live in the sukkah for the holiday week, and seriously disrupt the community.
This is true. And I strongly encourage everyone interested in Jewish belief and practice to see it. It is a fabulous movie. The story is well written, and the actors are some of Israel's best. The primary characters are all authentic chasidim--professional actors who turned chasidic. The result is a high quality portrayal of chasidic life that shows what can happen when faith comes into conflict with the "real world".
Shalom,
Mishkan David
