Romans 8:2,"For the instruction of the Spirit of life in Christ Yeshua made me free from the law of Sin and Death."
The (Holy?) Spirit's instruction leads us into the truth, and that is the whole purpose of the Spirit, as said by Christ Himself in John 16:13 and is also said by the prophet Ezekiel in Ezekiel 36:26-27,"I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my ordinances, and do them."
But what is truth? Christ said,"I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6). And who, or what, is Christ? "The Word [become] flesh" (John 1:14) is what He is, the Word of God given a flesh form, in the likeness of sinful flesh; every instruction/Law/Nomos/ that proceeds from the mouth of the eternal El-Shaddai.
If Christ is the Word of God (including but not limited to the (Law) of God), and He is the truth, then what shall we say about what Psalm 119:142 says to us,"Your is truth."?
And this is my message to those who say that the is abolished: if the Spirit leads us to the truth, according to John and Ezekiel, then how can we say that the very thing that God, Christ, and the Spirit instruct men to do (i.e., the of God) is something not to do, or something we don't have to do? The answer is simple: we can't, for the new covenant promises that the of God will be written on our hearts, and God's Spirit would be put within us and used to cause us to walk in His commands:
"But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people:" (Jeremiah 31:33)
and,
"I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my ordinances, and do them." (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
The Spirit leads us toward the of God and away from the instruction of Sin, and the instruction of the Sin is to do things that are sin, which is the breaking of the of God as Paul said in Romans 7:7. Ezekiel 36:26-27 reinforces this.
Therefore, if God then, by His Spirit, causes us to keep His , which are His ways, then it is only logical that we come out of the instructions of the the flesh, or Sin, and into His by the work (instruction) of the Spirit.
But how does the Spirit leads us to keep the of God? By faith, for,"We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the " (Romans 3:28). The Spirit shows us that we are in bondage, and gives us a desire to be free from bondage (the Spirit does this after we hear the Word of God and realize our guilt and condemnation). Then the Spirit shows us the way out of punishment, and the way out of punishment is faith in Christ.
For, if we are justified by faith apart from the works of the , then we must come to that faith first. But how do we come to faith? "...faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17). God's very own Word gives us a way out of punishment and bondage.
So the Spirit shows us that the Word of God is true and trustworthy, and since God's word gives us a way out of punishment and bondage, then after the Spirit leads us to believe the Word of God and instructs us to do it, we are"...made...free from the instruction of sin and of death."
This leads in to both the instruction Faith and the instruction of Righteousness.
