Blessing After Reading
"Blessed are You O Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has given us a of truth, and has planted eternal life in our midst, blessed are You O Lord, Giver of the ."
I am the father of nine children, not only present; but actively engaged in the birth of each of them. Many suggest that I should be comfortable with the experience, having delivered more babies than most doctors. Many assume that my experience with handling the newborn walk working through the process of delivery would give me confidence. If we had hospital births, that may well be the case. Sure, I can get used to waiting in the next room for the bay to show up. Now, "the Daddy room" as it is called in some hospitals is full of sports magazines and "guy movies" to pass the time. I could do that; and after four, five six kids, become pretty accustomed to the idea of not really knowing what is going on in the next room.
That’s not the method we have chosen. Each of our children have been born at home, assisted by a midwife. The more I go through this process, the more aware I am of how amazing and fragile life can be: how so much could potentially go so very wrong, and how miraculous is the birth of a healthy baby. Ignorance is certainly bliss; but knowledge, in this case is awesome.
We can read through the Scriptures in a cursory habit and become familiar with the text: " I know the story," "I’ve read that before;" but the blessing is a reminder of the fantastic and miraculous thing that we have the opportunity to share: that we have been given the of Truth and eternal life has been placed in our midst. This deserves more than just a cursory reading, even as the opportunity to hold a new born baby demands more than a "been there, done that." You certainly have no idea what it is that you are missing.
Messiah said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6). It is not insignificant that these same elements are present in the blessing on the . Messiah is the "Word made flesh" as described in John chapter 1. You can’t know One without the Other.
Whether we have come to the Messiah through the or come to the through the Messiah makes little difference. But when we say that we have no need of One because we possess the Other is to be satisfied with a half-truth, a casual understanding, a willingness to be satisfied with "the Daddy room" experience.
Messiah described those who "do the will of My Father" as those whom He knows as brother, sister and mother. (Matthew 12:50). The will of the Father would be understood by those present as the , and He made no effort to qualify His statement. If our desire is to live in a daily relationship with our God that breathes eternal life, then we must walk in an understanding of , daily experiencing the presence of Messiah Yeshua.
