Reuel,
I'm looking at your June 10th. reply and would like to respond to two of the Biblical references you quoted. I don't believe they support your claim about the entire
.
Reuel: "In regards to our Heavenly Father's
...I would say no (Matthew 5:16-19)."
Curt: The
contains both the Ten Commandments written by the finger of God and the law written by the hand of Moses. Yet if you read on in Matthew starting with verse 21 you see Jesus is speaking of the Ten Commandments and two new commandments He gives when He says the Law will not be destroyed or will not pass away.
Matthew 5:21 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, "You shall not murder," and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgement
Matthew 5:27 "You have heard tha it was said to those of old, "You shall not commit adultery"
Matthew 5:33 "Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, "You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.
The two new Commandments He gives are:
Matthew 5:39 " But I tell you not to resist an evil person."
Matthew 5:44 "But I say to you :love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust."
At the same time He is showing which Law is not going to be destroyed (Ten Commandments and two new commandments) He is quoting which law He is changing.
Laws He Changed:
Matthew 5:31 "Furthermore it has been said "Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce."
This law comes from the law written by Moses and Jesus is not agreeing with this law. In fact He says:
Matthew 5:32 " But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual imorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery."
This law also comes from the law written by Moses.
Matthew 5:38 "You have heard that it was said, "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth."
Jesus also rejects this law written by the hand of Moses when He says:
Matthew 5:39 "But I tell you not to resist an evil person."
Another law written by the hand of Moses is mentioned.
Matthew 5:43 "You have heard that it was said,"You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy."
Jesus also rejects this law written by the hand of Moses.
Matthew 5:44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,......"
Reuel: "Neither Yeshua, nor any of the Bible teaches that there is more than one
given by our Heavenly Father (James 2:10)."
Curt: The
contains both the Ten Commandment Law written with the finger of God and the law written with the hand of Moses. James calls the Ten Commandments the royal law.
James 2:10 says: "For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all."
Which whole law is He talking of:
James 2:11 "For He who said, "Do not commit adultery", also said, "Do not murder" Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law."
This whole law He is talking about is the Ten Commandments. He is comparing one Ten Commandment to another Ten Commandment.
He also calls the Ten Commandments the "royal" law as if the other law written by the hands of Moses is lesser of stature.
James 2:8 "If you really fulfill the ROYAL law according to the scripture, "you shall love your neighbor as yourself......"
Which laws fulfill the Royal law according to "you shall love your neighbor as yourself.
?
It's the last six commandments of the Ten Commandments. Honor thy father and mother, don't murder, don't commit adultery, don't steal, don't bear false witness, and don't covet.
Reuel: "Although, there are different ideas of law (nomos) such as the laws of men, or the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2) which are both different from our Heavenly Father's
."
Curt: I believe Paul when speaking of the law of sin and death is speaking of the sacrifical law for sin. When a lamb is sacrificed for our sins, it dies. This is part of the laws written by the hand of Moses. Before Jesus lambs were sacrificed for each person's sins.
Romans *:2 "For the law of the Spirit of life in
Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
When we read the whole verse we see Christ Jesus has made us free from that law of sin and death. In other words their is no more need for sin sacrifices.
Finally there is a law of liberty and this law frees us from our worries and this law of liberty is the Ten Commandments. If we keep the Ten Commandments we have peace. Example: If nonone commits adultery noone has to worry about venereal disease.
James 1:25 "But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does."
Why is the Ten Commandment Law perfect? Because it is also the character of God.
