Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Or, from CJB – Therefore, we hold the view that a person comes to be considered righteous by God on the grounds of trusting, which has nothing to do with legalistic observance of commands.
Shalom
Sha’ul raises an interesting argument for me here. And, again, I hope you will understand that I am seeking to more fuller understand what is the truth rather what has been handed down to me through Christian teachings.
The ‘therefore’ is important – because Sha’ul is finalizing an argument and reaching a conclusion.
I can, perhaps, imagine someone of Jewish faith coming up and tapping Sha’ul on the should and saying something like – 'Look, I love your teachings Brother Sha’ul but I just can’t understand why these Gentiles get it so easy – Like they never knew , and here you are saying they don’t need to be right with Adonai’.
Sha’ul; ‘Brother, remember your Father Avraham? Did he not put his trust in Adonai (R 4:3) and that was before any , or before circumcision, or before the Promise – yet it was this trust that Avraham displayed which was credited to him as righteousness. Now, do you not agree that our Gentile believers have done something similar? – they are acting on trust (faith) and have done so without any knowledge of . Are they not following Avraham in trusting Adaoai?’
Brother; ‘You have a persuasive argument Sha’ul – But, I have been following ’.
Sha’ul; ‘Yes, that is excellent but do not boast about it because what good is following if you do not then trust Adonai?.
Brother; ‘Well, what good is then? – I might as well do anything and just trust Adaonai.
Sha’ul. ‘Brother, you miss the point. You have come after Avraham – you are of the seed of Avraham and have little choice but to follow . Do you not think that having put their trust in Adanai these Gentiles will eventually have to do the same? If they are to be part of the Promise, will not they have to learnt and keep as you do?
Brother; 'I see what you are saying’.
Sha’ul: ‘See my Brother, It is not a ‘either or’ situation – it’s a ‘if then’ deal – if one puts their trust in Adanai then they have to follow .
Brother; “OK then I can accept that. When is this all likely to happen?’
Sha’ul: ‘Watch this space’.
With humble apologies to all
